I could comment but I am being watched so I wont go there. A book can preach one thing, if the followers dont "follow" it then the book is null and void.
I follow my book. And yes, I have read it.....my chosen book not theirs.

I used to be a big supporter of the death penalty. I also felt like the government couldn't ever do anything right. Then one day I realized those 2 positions are probably not a good combination.

If they're actually guilty and we had some reliable way to prove that, I'd be all for it. As it is, I think the odds that innocent people are being executed are just too high. You can set somebody free who was wrongly imprisoned but you can't un-execute them.

Me too actually. Thought I knew them better than that. And its not like I actively read the bible on a daily basis either. I was in middle and high school when I had to read it. You forget shit over 25+ years.

There's no mention of "eye for eye" in the Ten Commandments.

Clearly not a reference to an "eye for eye". It appears elsewhere in the Old Testament; Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy.

States with the death penalty typically have higher murder rates than states without. And it's usually more expensive than keeping that person for the rest of their lives with the countless appeals.

Oh and 4% of the people on death row are innocent. Would be pretty shitty to be that guys wife/father/son whatever.

Well, if you're Christian, this isn't our only life. If I was wrongly convicted and ended up getting the death penalty, then I would try to fight it. If I couldn't win, then I would gladly accept my fate and pray that God would take me in.

On the other hand, I don't think we should have the right to choose who lives and who doesn't, but I think there are certain types of people who would be better off lying in the ground than keeping alive.

It was hypothetical. Others have mentioned earlier about wrongly accused people who ended up getting put to death (if it were me, I would try to prove my innocence. If they didn't believe me, then so be it. I'll be with MY maker in the end). Hope that clears it up..

The problem is that they have no other option than crime once they get tossed in. You get a black mark on your criminal record and then your fucked.

You come out of prison with no real skills, a massive gap in your job history, and you can't get a decent job because of the criminal record.

When your in there you meet a whole bunch of really shitty people who can let you make a living doing illegal shit. If your already coming from a bad neighbourhood what else can you do?

There's a reason places with a focus on rehabilitation see nearly 0 people come back to prison once they leave. They leave prison with job skills, some even have conferences with the people they hurt with their crime so they know how it effected others.

If you want your prison system to be brutal don't expect the people to come out to be nice people and integrate into society.

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions..."

Which is why I stated "on the other hand" as in..no religion involved..
