I got a flat repaired (internal patch) at the Chevron in Furnace Creek about 10 years ago, on our Prius. I watched the guy, he knew what he was doing. But when it came time to put the wheel back on, he started to look up the torque spec, then turned to me and asked: “What kind of car is this anyway?” This was when the Prius was already the #2 or 3 best-selling car in California. He couldn’t find it on his cheat sheet but I knew the lug but torque. And he did torque it by hand.

Similar response over here. Actually the response over here was, "No, no and no".

Though as @DoorDing points out it is hard to see how you make much of the place. It is effectively a hard to maintain seasonal tourist spot. While I'd like to retire to Owens Valley some day I also think I'd want and easier drive to Lone Pine or Bishop than Cerro Gordo Rd.

Did you get the tour? They have some great old stuff up there. The saloon is fantastic! Yeah, but prolly a lot of work to turn a dime.

Last I heard the County maintains it. But they prolly get support from FAA, Edison, City of L.A., County Sheriff, and others with TeleCom equipment above the town.

Yeah, but when you live in a town with a median home price of over $800K for a 60 year old 1200sq ft house on a 6000 sq ft lot, $925K for 317 acres and 22 houses, in California, sounds OK.

By the way, Zillow (not always credible) shows Cerro Gordo as sold in 1997 for $2000.

That's the main draw. It includes all of the mining claims on the property.

No they didn't understand very much about the place but I'm sure there will be increased visitation due to a prominent LA radio show covering the recent sale announcement.

 why send them to SV? So that they can ruin it like they ruined JT and the surrounding BLM Land? Send them back to Alabama Hills...

My guess is that it will sell for half of what they are asking for it.
