Got to DVNP and found the road to the Kilns and Emigrant pass were closed due to washouts in August. We flaked out on the road and woke to a great sunrise

We headed up north after a hike up Mosaic Canyon. Starting in stovepipe to Leadfield and through Titus Canyon

Personally, I think paved roads in death valley should be outlawed. They tend to cause man-caused global derp.

so we left the amazing Titus valley and went to explore an area called 'the racetrack' we didnt know why it was named that... but first there was 20 miles of washboard to go through

And then we found out why it was called race track, not a fast race, but very cool:

And our camping spot we picked was a slab for an old mining cabin, great view. The star field every night was amazing.

90% 2wd. Even what the Ranger called really bad was easy. The tough roads were the ones to the good camping spots.

this is as bad as it got

So after a great night sleep we headed back to teakettle juction, to Hunter's mountain saw some cool stff along the way. (I had to switch to my hazy cell camera)

the map showed 4wd area ahead, dont know why, it was a rocky dirt road, all 2wd.
Got to hunter mountain, odd to see pine and oak trees in death valley, but every new turn was a different ecosystem
    [IMG]
then down off the mountain to Panamint springs

So we headed down from Hunter mountain and hit a junction-right to Saline valley, left to Panamint Springs. Next time we will go to Saline, for now Panamint springs so the other 2 vehicles can gas up($5.98/gal!) I had a 5 gallon NATO can with me :D. We hiked up to the falls near town, then drove up the canyon to camp, another great spot.

Solo? Mengel pass? As long as you don't mind camping there if you get stuck. Last time I went through the rough part, there were a few people having a tough time at it. Good tires, aired down skid plates, a HiLift and patience, you will probably be fine.

    OK lets finish this up.

we left camp and headed to Darwin, the road follows the riverbed and goes by a few more mines, we saw a structure on top of the mountain and went to explore, found a great place to camp, marked down for next time.

Then on to the strange town of Darwin:

    wtf?

And then home to clean up

If you have been wanting to go to DV...go! A lot can be done, even with 2wd.
