I dunno, for a while I was enjoying seeing pictures of what I had been planning to do this month, and had to cancel. But now it’s getting tough to look at, realizing I probably will miss the Spring flowers and warmer weather of March and April. Can you guys just post pictures of broken axles or flat tires instead?

@dman100, I feel your pain. We were supposed to be leaving to head down there today but cancelled our trip.

Guys, I may head out tomorrow for a day or two. I have enough supplies to not make any interactions with the local communities. Anyone else?

    Fixed that for you.

Being that you've never been there and really don't have an idea of what to expect and with our current pandemic cautions I say you should stay home and do more research. If you get hung up out there and are unable to self-extract you will be placing unnecessary strain on the SAR/Recovery community that will be assisting you. The park isn't going anywhere.

Have you read through this entire thread? Have you read about the various search and rescues over the years? Recovery issues?

Don't die out there is a real thing.

Maybe we get the all clear before it gets to hot?

There should be a TW Death Valley meetup when that time comes.

It didn't get it's name for nothing and it continues to happen just about every year.

I get the feeling that many "new members" do not fully understand the many risks involved with traveling around D.V. (or anywhere remote). They see pretty pictures and are off and running.

Yeah I passed a rental minivan full of people on the way in.. no idea what they were thinking. This was before the rain hit thankfully.

Finally uploading photos.. Was out just before everything got locked down. Happy I went when I did, bought a National Park pass too.. but that's pretty much useless now. Should have stayed out for another week or two. If my battery mount hadn't failed nearly burning down the truck I would have stayed longer, but at the same time I had a big storm rolled through and we got snow so the last few areas were probably inaccessible.

DV washboards are no joke! Steel Pass was interesting, preferably don't go solo.

I'm a little on the extreme side, I carry flare kits, PLB, HAM radios, signals mirrors, clothing for all weather situations ect.. If stuff really gets bad they have F-18s and F-35s flying through the canyons a few times a day so if you had to you could signal for help. Gas stations was closed at stovepipe. So a lot of people were stuck, always top off when able. Had to help someone that ran out of gas, if it had been summer you can die in that situation... another person had an oil leak but couldn't help them out, didn't have any on me.

It's not just "new members". People underestimate how quickly things can go from fun to fucked all the time.

No, it isn't. It just seems like younger folks, perhaps newish to off-roading are buzzing around everywhere. And some of them seem a bit reckless.

Yeah out by Eurueka Dunes I had the whole place to myself. Going over steel pass I felt completely alone, I'm sure there is more traffic on the weekend but its weird not seeing people for two days! Also the dunes make some freeky noises at night

That sounds awesome! It can be unnerving if you aren't used to it.
Did you come up 395 and east into Eureka? If so, you drove right by my house.
