The corral in the background was made with spiral riveted pipe scavenged from nearby abandoned mines.

The garage was the visitor’s center before the flood. Not sure what was in there post flood, hopefully they weren’t storing artifacts there...

Tried to schedule a reconstruction tour from the floods when I was out there and it was all booked up. Now this happens...

We seem to have a lot of fires while things are under construction or not properly protected from fires...

Things like Notre-Dame, Bonhomme Richard, or library that just burned down in South Africa with irreplaceable items...

Just hope it was an act of god and not some shoddy work or vandals.

We just had a similar fire a year or so ago. Brand new housing multi-story building, still in the stick phase of construction went up like a torch. There have been several of those kinds of fires over the last 10 years or so. Usually happens when the roof is going on (torch work). You'd think they'd stand a fire watch for those kinds of activities.

Very sorry to hear -- we were there two weeks ago for the recovery tour. In 2015 the location was hit by a 1000 year storm which trashed infrastructure, many buildings (but not the main house).

I seem to recall there was a gas station at Scotty’s Castle when I first visited years ago. Am I hallucinating? I’ve never been inside ... on my last stop there I had to do a clutch actuator repair on my motorcycle, in the parking lot, and then the flood. Fingers crossed that his fire won’t slow down the re-opening.

I wouldn't hold your breath, it's been closed forever. It would be great to go back, but I'm sure it will take more than a few more years.
