Reminds me of having to use a 'wag bag' when hiking Mt. Whitney a few years ago, you better hope for a clean getaway when using one of those.

LOL you guys are a riot. So we found some camping toilets where you take your dump into a bag. We plan to bring a 5 gal bucket for us to put the bags into until we can dispose of it properly in a trash bin.

Not to change topics, but where did you find the 2-1/2 gallon Jerry cans? I been looking for something in that size that won’t ballon out like the plastic cans I’ve been carrying

I picked up some Wavian cans through 4 Wheel parts.
Had good prices and got them sent to my nearby store in 2 days free when everyone else said 7 to 10 days.
    Great cans.

Yep! Wavian is top-notch. I recommend buying directly from them. They are sometimes in short supply, I had to wait half a year for mine. But I think that was because their warehouse was in Paradise and I ordered them just after the fire.

They are a prefect fit behind the "Decked" drawers in my truck. The locked tailgate totally secures them.

Pro tip: Buy the gooseck-style fill nozzle. The CARB one it comes with is useless and will dribble fuel all over your truck and your shoes for 10 minutes. The flex spout is drip-free and drains in less than a minute.

I made up my mind after seeing the videos of them testing the Wavian's in a fire.

Speaking of fire, we used to burn the TP in the hole after going, there was much less trash left behind that way, just had to be careful where the embers went. Packing it all out is much better for the desert though, glad it’s becoming acceptable to more people.

Call me a cheap bastard, I nearly shat myself seeing that $100 price for a gas can. That is a lot of dog biscuits.

It looks like prices have indeed gone up, I paid about $70/ea in late 2018, which was already an elevated price since the importer's warehouse had just burned to the ground in the camp fire. I think the pre-shortage price was like $50 or $60. But if you go to the actual manufacturers/importers websites today, you will see that jerrycans are largely out of stock across the country. That means you are seeing scalper pricing on Amazon.

Within the past 15 months, we've seen the worst pandemic, civil unrest, and power grid failures of the century, resulting in a sustained unprecedented demand for jerrycans along with all the other crazy prepper stuff. (And let's not get started on the price of ammo!) So you're unlikely to find a good deal on jerrycans this year, or possibly ever if today's global supply dysfunction gives way to massive inflation. But if someone stole my jerrycans tomorrow, I would pay $100 in a heartbeat to replace them because they are top-quality products that perfectly fit the available volume in my truck bed. (I'm sure the plastic ones recommended by @turbodb are great too, but I'm already committed to the metal ones since I've buried a dozen more somewhere in the desert alongside six cases of ammo, 80 MREs, and two thirds of a bit coin... just wish I could remember where!)

I wouldn't buy jerrycans on Amazon though, due to the rampant problem of counterfeit products being sold there. It doesn't matter who is listed as the "seller," their system ships any stock from any warehouse to fulfill your order, and the problem is worse now than ever. I'd buy such things directly from the manufacturer/importer/etc. wherever possible, even if that means (heaven forbid) paying for shipping. Bernie Madoff has nothing on Jeff Bezos -- convincing the world to pay $120 a year for "free" shipping is the greatest scam of all time.

Oh, and speaking of dog biscuits, here's another ridiculously bulky camping object that we usually pack alongside the bucket of shame:

    81Tbv2tkFvL._AC_SX466_.jpg

It's not a bear canister, but it's perfect for storing food and/or trash in raven country. Those ass holes will peck their way into a trasheroo in the blink of an eye.

And lol I never thought I'd stand in line for 20 minutes to buy a $5 cupcake until I visited our friends in Campbell.

Thanks for recommendation. I see several sites, including 4 Wheel Parts, listing 10L Wavians at $79.99, so I think I will bite the bullet after reminding myself how much I spent for the two pieces of plastic that Maxtraxx convinced me were absolutely necessary.
