I agree to 100% of this temperature estimation that it's on point to what I experienced over the weekend..

I can say that is was probably maybe around 105F at beginning of the afternoon, at the bottom and across the street from where I was the previous night while visiting a cabin for a quick lunch break..

Butte Valley/Panamint City look quite pleasant this coming week. Remnants from Hillary may give Death Valley some serious flash floods and noticeable cooling. I've always wanted to see one of those narrow canyons with enough flow to mobilize boulders

Indeed. Video footage would be neat. I'll be watching the weather reports.

Down here in San Diego one can take their chances in Octillio or surrounding area, but potentially very risky with several inches of rain predicted. Could shutdown interstate 8 between San Diego and Phoenix AZ.

In 1976 hurricane Kathleen dumped 10-12 inches and caused a catastrophe including a 40' wall of water exiting a canyon that wiped out Ocotillo. The Salton Sea recorded a 6" rise.

Watching Hilary closely -- several of us are talking about storm chasing on Sun-Mon. Flooding chances look best in the low desert and eastern CA.

I'm actually in the Irvine area Sun and Mon, but with a rental car instead of my truck. Was half thinking of driving out to watch, but I wonder if this is going to be long soaking rain that builds to floods rather than the more exciting to watch summer thunderstorm cells. Also the thought of trying to intentionally drive in and out of the LA basin during rain seems like a traffic nightmare! Of course heading out in a rental car as opposed to a truck is probably stupid.

For anyone that goes I hope you get to see something exciting and stay safe!

EDIT: That said, if there is anyone in SoCal going out that wants someone to ride shotgun send me a PM and I might tag along.

This thing even comes close to producing what they say precipitation wise it's going to be epic. I don't know where I'll end up, but it definitely won't be the backpacking trip I had planned to Royce Lakes. lol

    Be careful

That desert flooding is no joke

Whatever happened to hurricanes being isolated to the east coast?? I’ve seen some gnarly ones over here. And we know how to prep. Stay safe.

Indeed it is. If we ever sit around a campfire together, I'll give you my opinion about why so many religions have the same tenants. Truth be told, thou shall not kill. It's just a generally good way to live your life

    From NOAA

RAINFALL: Hilary is expected to produce rainfall amounts of 3 to 6
inches, with isolated maximum amounts up to 10 inches, across
portions of the Baja California Peninsula through Sunday night.
Flash flooding, locally significant, will be possible.

Heavy rainfall in association with Hilary is expected to impact the
Southwestern United States through next Wednesday, peaking on Sunday
and Monday. Rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated amounts
of 10 inches, are expected across portions of southern California
and southern Nevada. Rare and dangerous flooding will be possible.
Elsewhere across portions of the Western United States, rainfall
totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected.
