The video hit a snag. My "royalty free" music wasn't actually royalty free. That caused some issues for the first video and I'm trying to find real honest-to-god royalty free music that isn't encumbered by the YouTube monetization process. Multiple libraries that I have tried have turned out to have copyright holds. It's been a challenge and I'm actually working on an order for some new music at this moment. It has been a spectacular pain in the butt, but I've learned a lot and met some music folks online, so it's going to make me a better (amateur) video producer.

There's a great story about a guy who rented a car and drove into DV late at night....basically, he failed at maps 101 and ended up buying the rental car.

DV was a hilight of our work trip to LA. Saw the wildflower bloom, went on a few short hikes , blew our living out allowance on dinner at the bar in Furnace Creek resort, slept in the car, so we could have more time In DV the next day

I just got back from my first DV trip. I was blown away! Surpassed my expectations in every way. Here's a couple quick pics. I'll put some more together when I have time.

I've posted this in a few other threads (as follow up to Day 1), but this is probably the most relevant thread.

Death Valley Road Conditions on Facebook is reporting Titus Canyon is (presumably temporarily) closed due to storm damage. Coincidentally, I finally finished editing Day 2 of my trip to DV just in time to share the simulated experience. (Day 1 is back in this thread a month or so)

    Places visited Day 2:
    1. Beatty, NV (starting point)
    2. Titus Canyon Rd
    3. Red Pass
    4. Leadfield Ghost Town
    5. Titus Canyon Petroglyphs
    6. Titus Canyon narrows
    7. Ubehebe Crater
    8. Chloride City Ghost Town (and Chloride Cliffs)

You can drive into the reward mine in inyo county. Just look it up on youtube its crazy. We also did Titus last Sunday and it was ok to drive through it. if it is closed is because of rain between then and now. The road to the castle is closed but thats it. You can still get to crater and mesquite camp.

I am also writing a report here.

    Just the basics
Just want to clarify that the Reward Mine is not in Death Valley. It is in Inyo county east of Manzanar.

Thanks! You'll have to subscribe so you get first notice of Day 3!

[Yes, this was the Reward Mine north of Lone Pine. I had trouble finding much information on the place and was not sure exactly where it was. Obviously we found it.]

Cool vid, you covered one of the parts I didn't get to do when I was there a couple weeks ago. I watched it with my little girl to get her excited about joining me the next time I go.

That's very cool. I watched Expedition Overland with my son to get him excited about getting a truck and going exploring. I even hunted down their "intro" song and we played it each morning of the trip and had it playing on repeat a good lot of the time. Now that I have my own "Amateur Expeditions" theme song, I wonder if I can get him to listen to that instead?

I'm really looking forward to going back once it cools down. I've been up Goler Wash a couple times 10+ years ago, but never over the pass, so I want to get up there to Stripped Butte Valley and check that out. I also want to check out the Racetrack. We had originally planned to go there after Ubehebe Crater and then head over the mountains into Lone Pine, but it was getting late and we didn't want to be on Lippincott Pass in the dark, so we changed plans and went to Chloride City. The only reason we were carrying extra fuel (on the roof of the Xterra) was so we could back out if we found Lippincott too difficult. At the time we didn't have a lot of info on conditions, so we wanted to keep our options open.
