Here's a photo of my mom circa 1963 car camping with my dad inside Death Valley NP...in July no less!

I wasn't around until 65', and used that stove 11 years later during my first Cub Scout camp out. Good times...

So much good going on in this pic. Thank you. Bet there are many more photographs from back then in your family albums.

Thanks man...I'll try to dig some more up, as I know they took a handful of old Polaroids during their exploits.

My dad just reminded me that this picture was taken before they were married, pretty cool "car date."

Not a plate bumper, skid plate, sliders, jerry can, or roof rack in sight! Awesome

Actually, two jerry cans on the ground passenger side...green. We used these for water when I was a kid, 5 gallon...metal.

A couple of pics of Scotty's Castle, December 1963:

Last minute decision to go and visit Barker Ranch and to check out the Stripped Butte. Any suggestions where to go from the Butte? I'm thinking of making a loop and head for Pleasant Valley Road back to Ballarat. Or, I can take Warm Springs Road and take it to Badwater Road. What I'm really after is just a nice long day without it being an overnighter if possible.

You can double back Manly pass and instead of Ballarat, head over fish canyon to Trona.

Or start in Trona and turn to the gravel pit north of town and go fish canyon first. Then Manly to barker and Striped Butte out warm springs and south out to Baker.

That sounds like a plan, I'm not going down Pleasant Road back to Balarat by myself..

Warm springs road to West side road, turn right (South), will connect to Badwater (pavement) for about 4 miles (south), then take Harry Wade Road (dirt), South for 35 miles, which will take you to CA-127 and to Baker.

    Sounds really fun! Enjoy!

Oh, man. You're gonna miss the sights and smells of Trona?

I'll be passing by Trona.. I didn't do any checking out of Fish Canyon on Google Earth so that's the only reason why I'm skipping your suggestion, plus I could do without the smells lmao

Gotcha, it is a good shortcut to Manly. Check it out for next time.

The Escape Trail is pretty awesome too. Even has potential camp sites.

The Escape Trail definitely was fun you have to watch yourself otherwise you would be hitting some speed that you shouldn't be driving...
