Yes. I was disappointed to see Russel in that condition. Last time I passed through 7-years ago it was a lot cleaner and people were staying there, they even let me come in and photo bomb it while they were making breakfast. Very welcoming folks, never did get their names...

But yeah, the cleanup seems like it's going to be on the order of "dumpster size". Why on earth did someone haul a full sized box spring and mattress up there? It only magnifies the rodent problem it would seem.

Wish I could have got into Geologists cabin, we may have stayed the night there.

Just curious if you read through this entire thread. There's a lot more here to enjoy and be awed by.

Nice find. I've kept it loaded in a browser on one of my screens ever since you posted it. :)

Now, if I could only somehow get away from here, to get there. :ballchain:

My wife and I are headed to Bishop CA from the 17th-27th to do some climbing and I was thinking of checking out death valley. Can anyone recommend and day trips that are suitable for a Stock 04 TRD Off Road?

All the usual places. Charcoal Kilns, Badwater, Artist's Drive, Titus Canyon. You can find a list of places here.

I've taken my stock Taco all over DV. For a long time the only add on I had was sliders. Even if you don't have sliders you can do a ton in DV. If you are coming from Bishop I would suggest Saline Valley if you are up for it, north to south weather permitting. There can be snow on both north and south passes. Another very good option would be head south on the 395 to the 190 and take that into the park. You could spend a night at Panamint Springs Resort (resort it is not, but still a great place to enjoy). From there you could access the charcoal kilns, then to DV proper, i.e. Furnace Creek, which has a ton of stuff for a first time visitor.

I've done large portions of Death Valley in a stock '64 Dodge Dart. I think you'll do fine.

It would be fun to wheel with you two out there. I might have been able to make it with more notice. Going to rebuild the front end over the next few days, and wheel after xmas I think

Anza trip would be fun. I did Anza a few years ago with the TTORA peeps on one of their annual runs and it was fun.

It was empty this weekend. Only 4 other vehicles at Saline hot springs. After Lippincott and before the worst washboards in the universe:

I'm more than a week late on doing a Saline Valley trip report in my build thread - which is not much of report since mostly I sat in a hot spring for a week straight. But I did get a few photos processed. From the trip in, here is Father Crowley Point at sunset:
