But you can still make it to Saline from the North though right? Sure hope so, unless they clear that all that stuff up, looks like it be a little tough to get through that mess.

People have made it via South Pass but reports are that North Pass is in better condition. I will provide first hand intel after my recon mission in a couple weeks.

GREAT info... my buddies and I are planning a trip in the spring. What timing would you all suggest in terms of weather? We are a bunch of pansies growing up in Santa Cruz, with a balmy 75 degree weather most of the year.

Check the monthly temperature averages for the park and choose what's best for you. I like November through February. But also pay attention to the elevation as well, add it can dramatically affect temperature.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread... I will be down in California over christmas and plan on spending a few days in death valley camping and exploring. Lots of good info here! Any suggestions on what I MUST see while I am there? This might be the only time in my life i'l be driving my truck down this way and I wanna make the most of it.

Total, I'd do the milk run through Death Valley proper. Bad Water, devils golf course, artists drive, Titus Canyon, the dunes over by Stove Pipe Wells. More North, also, Scotty's Castle, Ubehebe crater. Of all of those, only Titus Canyon requires a truck. It's a huge park, so plan accordingly...

Eh, I'm not really thrilled since my cat is not feeling well. That means leaving the gf at home. The whole purpose of this trip is to show some friends coming down from Washington State Saline Valley. No gf and a sick kitty are kinda bumming this one out.

What about Thanksgiving 22nd to 25th? I need someone to go with me, although not Saline valley but the Trona-Goler-Mengel-Warm Spring route.

Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.
I'm leaving this coming Sunday (hopefully) or Monday (likely), be back the following Saturday. If we manage to get out Sunday, we'll stay at the Trona Pinnacles the first night, the old Supervisor's house site the second night, Ubehebe mines the third night, the Saline Valley Hot Springs the next two nights (including Thanksgiving), and the Eureka Dunes the last night, heading out to see the Bristlecone Pine forest on our way back home. If it ends up being Monday, we'll skip the Pinnacles.
Sights we're seeing: Wildrose Peak and Charcoal Kilns, maybe Skidoo, Mosaic Canyon, Scotty's, Ubehebe Craters and mines, Racetrack, Lippincott Pass, Saline Hot Springs, Craig Canyon and the Salt Tramway, Cerro Gordo Peak (possibly), Steele Pass, Eureka Dunes, Bristlecone forest, and whatever other sights tickle our fancy.

Any chance I'll be seeing any of y'all while I'm there? Look for a Barcelona Red DCLB looking like a mean-ass expo rig with a week's worth of fuel on the safari rack; channel 37 on the CB. Two young kids (one in a backpack), a wife, and another friend in tow, if you catch me hiking; channel 43 on the Motorola 2-way.
