I would like all of your opinions on rear leaf springs, and what you would like to see out of them for your truck.
We are going to work with Deaver and have a spring built for us that will better fit the needs of a Tacoma customer.

The issues with the J66's are not so much that you cant have extra weight in the bed. It is that the people selling them maybe were not informing the end user correctly, then the user installs them, they don't work right and now you're pissed and the springs suck..

A Tacoma doesn't have much up travel in the rear from the get, then you add a much softer spring pack *(that is set up to be ran with a shock valved correctly we will come back to this part)
The spring is going to collapse at a much quicker rate, causing it to seem like the spring blows through the travel.

*Getting back to the note from above.
A spring mostly predicates ride height, a shock dictates ride quality. Having the correct shock for your application makes a world of difference. This doesn't mean having the correct length shock, although that is VERY VERY IMPORTANT!... It means having a shock that is valved correctly for YOUR driving style.
Just because your buddy has a xxxxxx shock and he loves it doesn't mean you will.. Ride is a perception and everyone has a different take on it, so keep that in mind when you are choosing your suspension.

We have the opportunity to work with Deaver and have a pack built that will better fit a larger groups driving style/needs, so I would like to hear what you want out of your spring.

Tell me what you would like to see.

    Thanks
    Micah

something that gives about a 2in lift, something that works with the kings 2.5 oem series rear shocks.

not too stiff unloaded. but can handle a 100-200lbs of gear for a trip, or a bike or quad.

It would be nice to have a spring that is actually made with the shackle flip for 2nd Gens in mind. Something with about 3-4 inches lift but also can accommodate a bed rack and RTT load out.

nothing as of yet.. a standard j66 with only 1.5" inches of lift isn't even really designed to work with a OEM replacement King shock due to the extended lengths the springs provide. I will keep this thread updated as more decisions are made.

Arb front bumper, warn winch, All Pro rear bumper, OME up front, OME and All Pro Standard in Back, ARB locker, 34 x 10.5 KO2's, 17" Level 8 Trackers, and fancy single piece driveshaft.
I have all pro standard springs. The spring itself is fine, and the truck sits level with about 500 lbs in the bed. This may not be enough this summer as I think I will be carrying more. The biggest problem with the spring is that it relocates the axel one inch farther back. The biggest tire I can fit under the bed is about 32.25 (standard jeep jk size, I can't remember the number.) It actually rubs on the diff a bit when compressed. I cannot fit a 33" back there. I also have an all pro bumper with their raised hitch, which probably crowds the tire more than the stock hitch. So a criteria for your spring design should be that a 33" tire will fit under the bed, with a recessed hitch in place. I also think you have to decide if you are going for an expo spring that will handle some weight, or a daily driver/offroad spring for people who mostly have a pretty empty bed, and still need a decent ride with no load. Mine ride great with a few hundred pounds or more in the bed, because the spring compresses enough that the shocks (OME) work well. With no load, it's really stiff. Maybe you can cure that problem with a different shock. Please let me know.

I'm planning a mid travel setup this summer. I'm pretty sure I will use ADS coilovers for the front but I'm still on the fence for the rear. I'm leaning toward a custom Deaver spring pack or the AllPro Expedition pack and ADS shocks with a possible relocate.

Icon MT suspension, Pelfreybuilt front bumper, Relentless skids, Avid sliders, Avid custom rack. Pelfreybilt HC Rear bumper.
I like something that can support 300 pounds at least (my Pelfreybilt rear bumper with swingout, bed rack with RTT, big box of recovery gear, etc.) and flex pretty good. I have ICON 2.0 RR shocks and it would be best if they can works with the new spring. How about Alcon?

I had Deavers on my 1st gen, they were nice. However I asked for 1.75" lift and got 3". Not a huge deal then but would want 1.5 or 1.75 for the new truck.

I had Deaver design a set of leafs for me with a second stage overload like @Jp450 shows. I won't know the exact lift til I put the bed back on because I only measured to the wheel well. I had to pull the overloads off until I get the toytec adjustable shackles set back down. With the Deaver kit you only need stock length shackles to get about 3" of lift. Once I get the toytec shackles back to stock height I should be able to put the overloads back on.

Finally got the shackles adjusted and the overload leafs put back on. Still not sure exactly what the lift is since I only measured to the wheel well with the box on but it is around 3" I think just from the springs plus 1/2" for the shackles.

Any new updates to this? Would love a pack that could handle 200-300 pounds daily be able to flex really good and is meant for a shackle flip with a 2.5-3" lift
