I just not sure how I like the black on black badges. It's hard to tell without seeing it in person. They look badass on MGM and some other colors, but kind of get lost on black. But maybe that's the better alternative than debadging? Hell, I don't know.

I realize this is a 2Gen thread, but I’m a fan of blacked out everything.

I taped off around the badges and used place plasti-dip, about 5-6 coats because I do not trust that garbage especially on larger areas, and also did the fake bead lock rings on my wheels.

plasti-dip is easy and recommend it if you use the brand name dip.

I did remove the v6 badge from the tailgate and might do the Tacoma badge as well and just leave the Toyota.

**also I prepped washing the badges and using isopropyl alcohol to clean the surface. I recommend covering a large area with plastic or cloth unless you’re a precision painter. I had some light overspray, cleaned off with alcohol before it dried. Looks good! But I don't think you're giving the durp enough credit. It's very durable and even more so on low traffic areas. I have numerous exterior/interior things painted and never had an issue. It's all about learning how to use it.

I've only had to repaint my bumper once
    20200604_144437_20201104200752999.jpg

Wheels painted once, two and a half years ago. I never felt the need to spend money on shinny new expensive wheels if I am just going to beat the hell out of them lol
    Screenshot_20201104-200305_Gallery.jpg

I did have to repaint the grille surround a few times because of road debris. But in my mind, better to have the option to simply repaint it with dip rather than ruin a permanent paint job.

It's the most idiot proof product I've ever used. If you don't like it, peel it off. No harm no foul. Perfect for a black out.

*A trick I picked up along the way is to use this product on any plastidip surface to keep in from drying out. It really promotes longevity.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve used the dip on a lot of things, mainly the wheels on my Subaru’s through the years, because I do agree to the extent that, if you can achieve the look you want with out ruining the orginial paint or buying new parts then Do it! Sometimes, I just don’t like the finish, even after using glossifier the black can, be inconsistent. I did my grille bezel hated it, peeled it off same day, and just vinyl wrapped it. But overall for badges I think it’s the first option one should try.

For those of you who plasti dip badges, how does the finish hold up in a car wash with brushes? I'm a member at our local Tidal Wave car wash and go through it regularly. It's pretty aggressive and I'm worried the plasti dip might come off.

Little bit of this and that
I'm a fan of the blacked out look for the badges. I've got the rear bumper and shell to finish but thats it.

BUMP! Sorry guys but have to ask @Hackwoo2015 and @theolee what are yalls thoughts on the overlays and the quality of them? do the cover the majority of the emblems or is there a little silver/chrome peeking out over the tops of them? I've heard that the non OEM ones aren't deep enough to offer full coverage. and the ones that @theolee found don't have the Prerunner emblem unfortunatly that i'd need. anyways thoughts guys !? would love to hear

The ones I suggested are not technically overlays. You have to remove the OEM badge's them apply them. There are products out there that you can buy to accomplish what I think you have in mind. As far as my thoughts on them, I don't really have any experience with them. I'm sure they'll fall off at some point. But again, never used em. To be honest, a can of Plastidip for $5 always seemed like a better way.

Just out of curiosity, have you not tried plastidipping them? :)

I was going to do overlays, but when they came in the mail, they were completely the wrong thing so I had to send them back. I took off the small "Toyota" badge on the back and scratched the paint doing it so I stopped. I decided to do the PlastiDip way and they turned out really good. It's not perfect, but for $6 and a little bit of time, they look good now.

Yeah I dipped a few things before but when it comes to the emblems I dunno. I also don’t even know if I would like the blacked out look on my silver streak taco lol. If it was MGM or black maybe but yeah the chrome kinda blends nicely with it being light silver. Just about to get some of the black wheels and thought maybe the murder scheme would be good. I dunno. I may dip one side and see Thought the overlays would be a bit more clean perhaps

We'll that's definitely the beauty of the Plastidip is if you don't like it, just peel it off. My truck is black and I thought it would be too much at first, but I'm glad I did them. Once the Plastidip starts peeling or looking bad, I'll probably get the overlays next time.

Honestly I don't recall. I think my order was just a fluke because the seller had good ratings for fulfilling orders.

I may be an odd bird but I don’t like black decals on MGM. Or black for that matter. I don’t love chrome either but I like it slightly better than black on very dark paint.

I’m a little tempted to try some overlays painted Barcelona red and see how they look. I did my center cap emblems so I have the paint already. MGM without chrome is just so overwhelmingly shades of grey. A splash of color helps a bit.

For the Tailgate I might debadge the v6. Not sure. I need to deal with the chrome bumper caps in some way too.
