Just so I'm clear, some of you are leaving the emblems on the truck and then taping off a large section and doing the Plastidip process on the vehicle?

Paint FTW.. Plasti dip is nice but you get a better look with paint IMO.

Removal is easy.> Blow dryer on the badges for a few minutes,, fishing line to cut them off. It takes more time to retape them than anything else.

    Correct...

I just taped off around the emblems leaving about a inch on the outside of the emblem.

Turner - Do you have a photo of what it looked like when you were done?

Sorry for all the questions. I've spent the last 10 years riding dirt bikes and this truck has become a new hobby...

Only the one's I posted earlier. The entire area will be painted. I took the end of a needle and just peeled up one corner and pulled it off the paint. It will stay on the emblem as you pull it off. I think there are some write-ups on here somewhere but really it is very easy. Just take your time doing it and it will turn out fine. Nice thing about it is if you mess up it peels right off so you can try again.

If you do decide to do it my tip would be to turn the spray can up-side-down and clear the paint out of the nozzle between coats so you will get a even spray pattern each coat.

Now it makes more sense. I didn't understand that part about pealing off the extra plastidip from the vehicle's paint. At first, I thought that you were leaving a square background around the emblem. So the dip peals off the paint but sticks to the emblem, cool...

    Yup...

On the last coat I let it set for about 10 mins. You want it to still be a little "tacky" so it will peel off easy and stick to the emblem. You can use a x-acto knife if you have any that is wanting to pull off the emblem while you are removing it. I didn't have that trouble though and you probably won't either.

    Realtree nonmarking gun tape.
    Razor blade.
Toothpick.(to push down around the edges real good)
    Hair dryer.

I just cut the tape around all the letters, then heated it up so its easy to push in all the edges.

Initially, I dipped my badges. Next day, I de-badged and kept the front dipped. Much happier with the badges gone.

You can order Pre-Runner badges in black from your dealer -- I found a savvy parts guy and he did it for me. I chose not to replace the Toyota badges and sprayed the front emblem black. I also de-decaled the truck -- TRD Off-Road -- I like the overall look.

There are several pics in the link to my page below.

TOYOTA TACOMA PreRunner V6 made the tailgate look too busy for my taste. I debadged and the did a simple rebadge.

Re: the plasti-dipping of the badges. I understand the masking off part...then peeling. I guess you should do the peel off of the body after each coat? And you don't have to go around the letters/etc. w/ a blade to seperate from the plasti on the body? I would think that the whole thing would peel off as one "sheet" if you don't cut around the letters, etc. I just decided yesterday that I want to do this to my new Magnetic grey metal. truck.

Peel it off the paint on the last coat. I used the "dull" end of a needle to start at one corner. When you peel it off it should stay on the letters. No razor or cutting required.
