OK guys, I think I'm going to debadge the 06 DCSB I just bought. It's super white and has been garage kept since new and is very clean. I don't think I should have any issues with ghosting but thought I'd get your thoughts and tips on cleaning it up if I do. Here's a pic of the truck now just for reference.

The foam is incredibly hard by now on that 06, mine is the same year. I debaged my trucks tailgate and holy crap it was difficult. I want to do the doors but without the door being off and horizontal I've been too scared to try.

Use the pro strength Goo Gone, let it sit, and use a credit card to scrape off the remaining adhesive. Spend a Saturday with some good polish (e.g. Meguire's 205) and wax, and that thing will look great. You will need a machine to get the polish done correctly, as hand rubbing just won't do it. And your arm will fall off.

I have a heat gun so I'm hopin that will help with the hard adhesive. at least to make it to where it crumbles easier.

Wait till warmer weather to do this. It will be so much easier. I used braid fishing line, a 3M drill mounted decal remover and a prep sol wax, grease remover and it was easy on my 2012 and 2015.

Warm weather, hairdryer for heat, and goo-gone afterwards.

My biggest concern would be paint fade from the sun. I think it will ghost

    Nice truck though!

I was able to hand rub out the ghosting (black paint) but it needs a powered buffer to shine it back up.

By ghosting I meant the paint under the badge will not be faded as the rest of the paint around it. Unless you repaint the whole thing, I think it will show

I knew what you meant and on my black tailgate you can not tell it ever had emblems - other than the entire area not being as shiney which is why it needs a powered buffer.

I think you are rolling the dice with the no ghosting. Either way, heat gun is your friend!

This is what I used to get rid of the ghosting, along with my finger.

I de-badged mine. Same year...same color. Use the braid fishing line, at least 20 lb test, and a heat gun. The glue is brittle. The heat gun will make the line slice through a little easier. Just do not over heat.
Since what is left on your truck will NOT be gooey, goo gone did NOT work for me. Mine came squeeky clean with colonite insulator wax and a little elbow grease. Since I re-badged mine with black, I left a very faint outline from the old badging to help me place the new. The paint looked no different but I had taken very good care of it since I bought it new in 2006.
    Good Luck!

It looks great now,,,You don't need to mess it up, just because you see others doing it. Gosh taking the badges off & painting the wheels black has got to be the "IN THING", but gosh it makes them look so plain & really kind'f trashy. Heck, you should have just bought the cheepo model to begin with instead of that nice TRD Sport. Remember, just my opinion.

Although I haven't tried using heat and heat has been recommended I seriously doubt heat would help. That foam is hard as a rock, perhaps it's because of the desert climate. So I'm going to pick some colonite insulated wax and try that. Did you use a machine of some sort to help or just your hand or?

That's why its called personalization. I'm positive there's more to a TRD Sport than a sticker, lol.

Yep, bought my reg. cab, just plain cause they aren't available in nice models. Have since installed badges, TRD Sport decals, TRD Sport scooped hood, 4Runner alum. sport wheels, 1.2" taller tires, & 2" lift. Orig. really looked plain & cheap, My personalized opinion, looks way yonder better now. Oh, if only I could have a 4.0 instead of this little dinky 2.7, it'd be perfect. As said before, just my opinion.

I'm glad you posted that. I wanted to try that too but I had completely forgotten about them. Thank you.
