I have been in the fence about buying a 24 SR5. I talked with the Manager at our dealership and told him what I wanted. I thought we had a wishlist conversation. On their web page I see that they have that truck in transit right now. So it will be here soon. My problem is that I've watched alit of YouTube stuff and I rarely see any positive comments about the new truck Help me out.

    I agree.

You'll hear about the bad stuff before the good.
Most people complain, they never praise.

I will admit, it's not always the best idea to buy the 1st year or 2nd year of a new model.
That said, if no one bought them, we'd never know what problems there were, or how to fix them.
In a sense, the first buyers are doing all the rest a favor.

And for that, I thank you.

you'll always hear the negatives and complaints before the positives. If you like it, get one. I'm enjoying mine, so far. No real complaints.

0 problems on a recent 900 mile round trip. Some make it sound like they never qc tested these before releasing to manufacturing. Solid truck, everything works, no drama. Just buy and enjoy.

Scrubbed some tires, and knocked a dent out.
Its too soon to know. I bet its plenty good to most owners. I was hesitant because of the newness and the price. Decided to get the last 3rd gen and can always upgrade, BUT I could end up losing/spending more money in that scenario as well.

You only live once and what not. Youre still buying a vehicle thats likely going to hold its own against the others. Its not a super rushed cybertruck, toyota took their time to come out with this. No design is perfect, and all auto companies use cheaper parts now and days.

They are doing the reliability/quality tour with the engineers for a reason, to give you confidence to buy. They show evidence of how they over engineered the cooling to manage the heat while giving a near diesel torque experience. Having experienced that torque going over 4000ft peaks recently, it works. Other than the engine and transmission, it’s not like you are hesitating over the headlights or window switches, so I’m not sure what you expect to be improved before year 3 or so. Buy today or in 3 years probably going to be the same truck with a few software patches.

I recommend to buy. I love my OR. 3400 miles and no issues. It runs, drives and rides so good. I think the OR probably is better on road than off in its stock form but does have some level of off road capability.
I was surprised at how well the driver assist systems work. These trucks are loaded with cutting edge tech stuff that is at least fun to play with.

It is literally like any car, truck, van etc. All the bad comes out. Rarely anyone posts in a forum or makes a video of them just driving around saying everything is great, no one would watch.

I am also about to buy a Sport Premium. I have been shopping for months. Colorado, Ranger, Canyon and Tacoma. Hundreds of videos. A bunch of different dealers. Building them on line to see exactly what I want. After all of that, I am going Tacoma.

Wait till next year after they work out some of the bugs out of the new truck . Hopefully they will also lower prices a little since these trucks are not selling well .

Toyota will fix problems, but they lean too hard on early owners to identify issues, and then defend their purchase decision. Back in ‘16, it was mostly annoying. But walk a Toyota lot in ‘24 and it’s like trucks by Neiman Marcus.

Life’s too short to waste time drinking bad coffee in a Toyota service department. If you’re going to pay too much for a truck, why not wait until they’re certified good, like the later Gen3’s.

I haven't even seen an allocation for a 4th gen I would want to buy. I don't want to sound like I'm complaining, I haven't exhausted my search, I haven't seen any XtraCabs, or allocations in the midatlantic region. I did see 7 XC SRs on a car carrier not long ago.

I owned 3rd gens I can tell you the 4th gen is so much more refined. Super comfortable to sit in, really powerful engine with almost diesel like torque, no gear hunting or hesitation when trying to accelerate. The technology is awesome too. I would go for it. I’m really enjoying my 4th gen so far.

I don’t think I’ve heard of one yet where the truck actually told the driver the trans is overheating.

All manufacturers do. This is part of making anything in volume.

You can design something to be bulletproof, and you can tool your factory floor to be the same all day long. But you never know where that 1-in-every-1000 defect is going to appear until you make and sample a minimum of 20,000 units. That's statistics 101. And that's why people say wait until the kinks are worked out, because they don't want to catch the 1:1000 defect or even the 1:10000 defect. For the buyers that have to have it now, that's still a pretty good roll of the dice.

Usually after half a million units, they have identified and eliminated those one-in-10k occurrences. That might not seem like much, but one-every-10k can make an awful lot of noise on the internet and news media. :cookiemonster:

Oh, and to the OP. Do not take the advice of internet goons for the same reason. Go kick some tires with your own foot and see if you like it enough to plonk your financing on it.

I love how the 4th gen owners are posting things like “I’ve driven 1,000 miles without any problems” as if that means the truck will be reliable for many years.
