    So,

I have got the itch lately with 4 door jeeps for some reason. I think I like the whole front axle and just the way the 4 door jeeps look. My moms work has a 08 Unlimited Jeep X (yes its base model I know) in a color I like and lifted with 35's.

Why should I or shouldnt I do this trade?
The only thing that bothers me is it doesnt have power window/locks.
That is about the only thing holding me back really. Oh, and not having a bed any more.

I would be going from a drop bracket lift with spacers and IFS that probably is not great of a off road vehicle...to a basic jeep which maybe more off road capable.

Unless it was a rubicon i wouldn't consider it. At the moment your truck is more off road capable with the locker. The non rubicon models come with a Dana 30 front axle and with 35s you either would want to spend some cash on upgrading the axle or preparing to repair if you do anything other than lite wheeling.

But if your wanting a project and have the cash to seriously modify for offroad abuse then this is a good base.

    Just my .02

I would save my money and get one with the Pentastar engine. My wife just traded her 2012 Unlimited Sahara out for a 2014 Mustang GT/CS. That was a sweet Jeep.

If you do go a little older then definitely a Rubicon or Sahara. We have had 7 Jeeps including a CJ5 that I am doing a resto-mod on. Once done, I will be buying another one to fix up for my son.

Why? The OP is looking for guidance from people he has a common interest with. If he goes to a Jeep forum they will tell him to get a Jeep no matter what.
At least on here he will get honest opinions from some people who have likely had Jeeps and Toyotas, among all the other brands.

Id only go on "looks" when not trading in my current vehicle for the jeep. Since you have a perfectly capable truck I wouldnt waste my time with the jeep. Unless there is a more specific reason that your truck doesnt meet your daily demand and an even more specific function you could use a base model jeep to accomplish those tasks better than your tacoma, your wasting your time.

It seems like there has been more tacoma to wrangler threads lately. I blame chris4x4 for starting the trend.

Save the tacoma and save your wallet.....I've owned 2 Wranglers (built) and a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Loved them all for what they were. But....

First off - Think about the financial situation. Don't put yourself into another car payment. Save the money....

Second - You don't want to offroad (hard) a NEW vehicle. Nothing hurts more than to ding up, mess up, scratch up, break shit on a vehicle you're making payments on.

Third - Jeeps are cool and can be modified a lot easier/cheaper than a tacoma simply because of the solid front axle and the amount of aftermarket support. However - don't let all that stuff fog your vision of what you really want/need it for.

Fourth - If you're looking for a vehicle to offroad and modify, beat around and not give two-shits if it gets thrashed around....Look around for a USED Jeep Rubicon or a used TJ 1998 - 2000 or whatever you can afford.

Keep the tacoma for your daily driving....

what intrigues me by these vehicles is the front suspension / solid axle. Amount of aftermarket support etc.

My dad has an 08 Sahara 4dr with pretty much all the bolt on's. His main complaint is with the motor. It is a little to anemic for what it needs to be. He has an OME 3" lift on "33's and just driving down the road it is constantly in and out of overdrive. He is to the point of either a re-gear or ripp supercharger. He is also considering a '13 rubi for the new motor and switching back to a 2dr. His has intake/exhaust/programmer. If the jeep you are looking at has not addressed gears then it will be a big fat puss-mobile on the 35's. Just speaking from experience.
