    We didn't really come across much out there. Any particular trails planned?

    You are open diffed like me. Once you remedy that though, your truck should be very capable. Your truck is lighter than the 2nd gens & it has great ground clearance. If I would have gone in that puddle I would have sunk into the sand lower than you.

    BTW, I still don't know what the hell I am going to do about mine. I know ARB is the top choice but it's a lot of extra stuff (air compressor, air line, solenoids, switches, & it involves drilling a hole in your diff). More things that can go wrong IMO. I was super close to having a Detroit True Trac installed but then I read about some people having the bolts back out of the diff after 10,000 miles or more. That concerns me also. I even considered looking for an E-locker complete axle (drum to drum) and buying a wiring kit for it. Those are hard to find too. I do not know what I am going to do or if I do anything at all.

    I also went online and found a company called Just Differentials that sells a completely new 8.4 3rd member, ready to drop in which that I can do, for $1600. That comes with the Heavy Duty TRD Limited Slip installed.

    Hello Fink,

    I posted this in the 2nd Gen section before I realized that there is a step-by-step on how to remove the diff.

    I still don't have the torque specs to re-attach all the bolts back. Do you know where I could find this?

    BTW, It's not a locker but it's good enough for what I do.

    Thanks bud!

    Hello Forum,

    I was VERY undecided on what to do with my open diff set-up. Well, thanks to this forum highly recommending East Coast Gear Supply I gave them a call & after a few minutes talking to them I went with this for my DCSB PreRunner 4.0 Auto:

    2008 TACOMA PRERUNNER NON ELD:
    Complete Assembled ECGS Differential Toyota 100, Tacoma with 3.73 R&P:
    $600.
    TT 913A541 True-Trac limited slip for Tacoma 8.4:
    $450.
    Lucas SAE 85W-140 Gear Oil:
    $7.50 x 3 quarts.
    TOTAL:
    $1072.50

    !!!!!DELIVER JANUARY 7TH THROUGH JANUARY 11TH!!!!!

    I do need help with a couple of things which I hope I can get from you folks.

    1) Torque Specs for all the bolts involved in the diff swap.

    2) I want to confirm the diff removal process & please let me know if I left anything out:
    * Drain gear oil,
    * Unbolt the 4 bolts behind each brake plate,
    * Unbolt the brake line brackets but I do not have to disconnect the line so I do not have to bleed the brakes,
    * Slide out the axles 3 to 4 inches each,
    * Unbolt the driveshaft,
    * Unbolt the nuts that hold the diff and pull it out,
    * Reverse the process.

    BTW, my truck has 51,000 miles. Is it a good idea to replace the axle seals since I'm in that area anyways? I do realize that if I replace the axle seals I will need to disconnect the brake lines and bleed the system.

    Thanks Forum [IMG]
