Is this route fine copilot-less? My SO is working that weekend and can't switch.

To clarify, we are running this N to S and not doubling back. The green line is a fire road?

Ah I see. I was just asking about myself. I'll be solo in my truck, unless that's a bad idea.

You'll be fine as most of us will be solo in our rigs as well and I'm not sure if these are official fire roads or not, but I'm guessing not. The the first part of the trail looks like it was graded out along most of trail, but in the washes and exiting back north along the rail looks mostly like a commonly used path(s) that either have fewer bushes in a straight line or would wash out in a good rain. Either way, we'll be good.

When we leave, will we be headed towards the blue arrow? Or the red arrow?
Also, the green path that's highlighted is a fire road, I'm assuming. Should I get maps or will I be fine with the group?

I got a place to stay in El Centro, so taking the left path would be helpful, but I will follow the group either way.

    Wrong map route. See below.

    See below...

It's going to be best if you travel North across the 10 to get to the Gen Patton Museum vs taking the 8 and getting there the long way. Although we'll be on the Bradshaw trail for a short bit, that won't be our exit out since we'll follow the rail line North back to the 10.

We will meet near the trail-head at the General Patton Memorial Museum at 11am ( which should be fine in these cooler temps ). There is supposed to be a Chevron here, so you can top off on fuel here or in Indio on your way out. If you want to check out the Patton Museum, get there early.

    11:00 am
62510 Chiriaco Rd, Indio, CA 92201

From there, we will cross I-10 to Pinto Rd, to the tail-head, air down for anyone that wants to, and then take off for the railroad trestle. The distance from the trail-head to the Eagle Mountain Railroad Trestle is approximately 19.2 miles ( 13.2 miles officially on the Red Canyon Jeep Trail ) and takes about 1.5 - 2 hours to get to the trestle. We should be there with the sun high on the Western side of the trestle which should make for some good photo opportunities. My dash cam will be recording the trip from/rear from my truck and I'll have my DSLR with me for quality shots if anyone is interested.

When we're finished, there are several exit points to include the same trail out, Summit Road which essentially follows the old rail line North to the I-10, or Southwest to the canal and following that back towards Indio which would allow for a visit to the abandoned places along the Salton Sea. I would prefer Summit road along the rail line which would push for another 16+ miles of off-roading. Total round trip off pavement would be approximately 36 miles.

    Here is information from TraillsOffRoad.com

    SR2013 - Red Canyon Trail
    Rated: 2-3 ( easy )
The Orocopia Mountains Wilderness Area was once home to one of the largest military bases in the world, while today it is home to some of the most beautiful scenery that Southern California has to offer, including the Red Canyon. The Red Canyon Trail takes you through this wilderness area bobbing and weaving its way through the desert and up and over the mountains to where the Red Canyon resides. This splendid trail is perfect for people new to off-roading up to the most experienced 4x4 enthusiast. Because of the ample amount of wilderness and BLM land, this trail is a great start to exploring the area, or just to get away for a weekend. Thus the next time you are near Palm Springs or the Salton Sea, think about checking out Red Canyon.
