I changed my front/rear diff, trans, and t-case oil to amsoil severe gear 75w-110 synthetic. The noise went away, but after 300+ miles the noise came back???

You put Severe Gear 75w110 in your manual transmission? How's it shift in the Winter?

I thought it was my transmission too, but it's not (per my previous post)

Anyways, I greased the hell out of my U-Joints last night and no dice. The truck drove much smoother than it had been, but as soon as I got up to speed and started to decelerated... Rrrrrrrrrrr.

We'll see, its still 80* round here. It isnt grease in the u-joints as I grease them every oil change.

I had this also for the first 900 miles. Now at 1500 miles and have not heard it for awhile.

Okay, so now I'm going to remove the front drive shaft and see if it still makes the noise while I'm in 4HI. If it does not, then the problem most likely lies in the transfer case.

Okay, still don't know what's going on with the noise, but my front driver side wheel bearing has definitely gone bad. Wheel bearings have been known for causing similar sounds. I'll be replacing it tonight, and if that fixes the problem y'all will be the first to know.

Maybe because your front axles are holding them in place even though they're shot?
    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/technical-chat/48846-bearing-f-job.html

If you have the means would you mind pulling your axles and then checking them out? You probably don't need to even remove them completely, just undo the nut that holds them in place.

Subscribed. I have the same grinding noise when in motion with zero load on the drivetrain. Completely replaced the driveshaft and still no difference. Clutch is next on my list.

If you're only replacing the clutch because of the noise, then I would hold off, because like I said before when I removed my rear axle and drove in Fwd the noise went away completely. Do you get the noise when in 4HI/LO

2008 Single Cab with 3000 miles. Started making the noise on deceleration around 1000 miles.

Took in to dealer on 7/2. There is a TSB up through the 2008's on this. I am at work so I do not have the TSB number. TSB lists a new 3rd member part number. Dealer ordered part, it was on back order and the current ETA is 8/26.

I'll repost with results when replacement 3rd member is in.

I'm replacing the clutch because I need a new clutch. It's just happens to be something to take out of the equation.

Likewise with the driveshaft, I replaced it because I needed a new driveshaft and not because of the noise.

Does anybody have any thoughts as to whether the noise is or could be anything serious or is it just annoying? I will have to finish reading that TSB when I get home. All I was able to read was the sound pading install.

It looks like all they do is change the carrier. I had mine changed for an ARB one and the sound is still the same.

The TSB states, remove and replace Rear Differential. Toyota carriers are setup as a completly assembled ring and pinon.

If the gears howl during deceleration only, it’s possible that the pinion-bearing preload has loosened or the pinion / carrier bearings are damaged.

So I finally Killed the damn noise 9 months later!

    It took 2 things
    1) CV driveshaft
    2) Angle differential to point up at transfer case

The retarded part is that I took it to a driveline specialist and they said it wasn't the shaft. After replacing my transfer case the noise persistedm and there were no options left so I started eliminating possible driveshaft issues. Here's a technical explanation of what's going on.
