I read a bunch of rust threads....but if you buy a First Gen with rust....can you then take it to a dealer to get the frame fixed? It's a lot of rust...the truck is at a Chrysler dealer. It was a trade in.

I've read there is a 15 year period from date of manufacture out.....but then I read it was from the point of the frame test to 15 years.

There's no way I'd buy the truck if it wasn't under warranty.

there's lots of info/mis-info on this subject.

3 points I'd like to make (coming from experience: '97 bought back, '01 under 'warranty')

#1 - check the VIN here:http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/resources (click on Safety Recalls and Service campaigns near bottom)
not all 1st gens are covered under this program; must be in a "salt state"

B - If the vehicle (assuming it meets #1) was not inspected prior to 12/31/11 for frame rust and undercoated by a Toyota Dealership then you are SOL (12/31/12 if in NY)

#3 - The 'warranty' is for 15 years from the date the vehicle was first put into service (read original sale date)

do your research on the vehicle before going any further. Contact Toyota Corporate to inquire more about a specific vehicle.

Also, because it is at a dealership, see if they will warranty the truck. Regardless of the situation w/ Toyota, if you can get the Chrysler dealer to warranty the frame then you are good to go IMO.

    good luck

There are no open Safety Recalls or Special Service Campaigns for your vehicle

    Well, that settles that!!! Thanks.:(
