So my radio is almost dead: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/whats-this-awful-noise.803128/

I need to replace it, and would like something that puts a little more power to the speakers. Don't run a sub and it's not likely that I will. Don't have an amp, but did do the $250 speaker upgrade.

Carplay would be nice, but I have an ipad I use for Gaia/etc when off-roading, so I don't need a ton of features on the HU.

I see a bunch of people using the Joying 9", is there an alternative I should look at?

    Yes?

Figure touch screen is a given at this point, and I want it to fit in the stock position.

    That’s double din right? For a 2014?

I’m in to see what people recommend,
The string wheel controls is the hard part, unless a company is able to use the volume and track selection maybe.

i jumped ship of touch screen stuff back in 2014, so i can't help much with the better units with that capability.

steering wheel controls are really the easiest part.

    just need:
    1. an adapter like the aswc-1, or similar from other brands. https://axxessinterfaces.com/product/ASWC-1
    2. a wiring harness adapter.
    3. a name brand head unit with a 2.5mm 'headphone-type' remote control jack on the back of it

yes. currently a pioneer 80prs, though my other vehicles 80 prs has been having issues, so i've been looking to upgrade both to the newer DEH-X8800BHS.

before that, i ran a full-active audio setup via a car computer with 3 different variations of touchscreen (lilliput 129, then a high-brightness 669, then a custom-built high brightness 669--transflective, optically-bonded, capacitive touch screen) and countless variations of software over the course of about 6 years.

    Ahhh, gotcha.
Yes, I'd like to keep a touch screen unit.
