My dealership repaired a paint crack (defect) on my hood, and I'm now thinking about applying paint protector film (like the 3m kits). I'd like to do at least the edge of the hood, and maybe the leading edges on the fenders, headlamp trim, maybe even bumper.

Toyota has a pre-cut version for $400+. Are there better deals? Are there manufacturers other than 3M that make a quality product? Is this even something I should contemplate doing myself?

I'm saving up for the extended warranty, and I just couldn't swing another $500 expense any time before I've paid for the warranty.
