Yes you can.. But it probably has it already..

You get a kit from GM, its not much.. It comes with no keys, you insert your truck key into it and it turn it right around the house, and it sets the lock.. Which is nice.. Just your usual keys for everything..

I didn't read the whole thread, but... I did the almost same deal you asked about.
    I bought a 2015 Silverado crewcab 4x4. 4.2 v6.
My Tacoma wasn't big enough inside (access cab), didn't tow like I'd hoped, didn't haul(plastic bed), and the frame went south very fast, rust.
The 4.2 is rated at 285 horse, 306 torque. It tows fine. The gas mileage is actually better than my Tacoma, I'm getting 20mpg daily and towing on the highway(2000 lbs.) I'm getting22mpg. Not towing highway 24ish.
Interior is huge, ride and handling good.
Can't comment on reliability yet, but I'm 66 and have never had mechanical problems with any of my trucks and sports cars. Maybe because I take care of them.
    I don't regret my decision.

I’ve never heard of that one. I stuck to GM-full-size and GM trucks.

Thankfully N.A. trucks have caught up to the Japanese in reliability ever since the........ Oh, who am I kidding!

Seriously, do you really believe that?

    Too few to list.
I've been a member of many forums from owning so many vehicles and by far, Tacomaworld has been the most active, friendliest, and most entertaining. If you look at my joined date, I've been here a long time. Toyota sites are actually the friendliest (Yotatech, T4R, XRU, and Toyotanation) in general.

I do. 100% I actually think that Toyota has a better reputation for the 3-400,000 mile mark. That is where the Ford, GM, and Dodge trucks lack. I think almost any MFG can now make 125-175,000 with regular maintenance.

We never see tacomas in the shop! When they do come in all they ever need is oil changes and 30/60/90k services. They don't leak oil, they rarely leak coolant.

Chevy trucks and SUVs are always in here! Coolant leaks, oil leaks, check engine lights, parking brake shoes fall apart, the brakes rust to pieces...

A tacoma with 200k is halfway through it's life.

A chevy with 200k is leaking every where, the differentials are noisy, the dashboard is full of warning lights, the customer is complaining about how much they have already put into the rig and they can't wait to get rid of it..

Just last week an 87 4runner (with 250k) came in with no taillights. I found/replaced a blown fuse, checked for water in the taillights (ok) and sent it down the road! 25 bucks and hes back on the road! Made me so proud..

The last chevy truck that came in with no taillights needed that taillight module under the bed above the axle. The pins were rusted and broke off when I tried to remove the connector. I had to replace the wiring pigtail and the module.. his bill was a lot more than the 4runner when it was all said and done..

I run a fleet of vehicles for a living and I can guaranty you this is not the case. Even my new Hybrid Sonata's are constantly going back to the dealership for engine light issues. Dodge Caravans constantly need front brakes, the Fords have paint issues, Chevy's are just Chevy's (Ugh), etc....

    The 2 Toyota's (2008 Rav4 & 2009 Highlander) have been trouble free. Wish we had Tacoma's.

This is one of the things that I should have brought up earlier as a reason I went with the Tacoma over another Silverado. This community. Everyone here is awesome. There is a step by step guide to fix or modify anything that could ever be done to your truck and that just does not exist for the Chevy.

I didn't read through this thread, but try asking the same question on a Chevy truck forum and see the responses.

I've owned several Chevy trucks, every one of them was a reliable workhorse. I had a Z71 with the 5.3 and it got better gas milage than my Tacoma. That truck had more room in the cab, bigger bed, better towing, quieter, better ride.

I owned a 07 Silverado 1500 5.3 for about 4 years, I bought it used in 2010 with 29k on it. I traded it with only 55k on it, in that time frame I had to replace many major parts(mind you we are talking about a low mileage truck her under 50k that was a pillow hauler basically stock form)- Evap system crapped out, all break lines rotted had to be replaced, most of the steering components needed to be replaces, wheel bearings, breaks ect.. I think it was about 4-5 thousand dollars I spent in that 4 years in fixing issues on the truck (granted that's dealer pricing). I think this is unacceptable with a low mileage lightly used truck. I will never buy another Chevy and that’s coming from someone who considered themselves a “Chevy guy” before I ever really owned my own.

My Tacoma I bought with 150k on it and I have less worries about reliability on it.. Enough said..

Sounds like the vehicle you bought was abused..

    Or "enjoyed" and not maintained..lol

My dad drives a 2010 Sierra... had to replace the TPS and EVAP sensor under the truck.. All under $150 and a bad tank a gas a few months ago.. That's all the problems hes had..

Oh, and the brakes after 100,000k.. Changed coolant and trans service.. If you want to add those..

Oh, he lives in northern Ontario, Canada... Heavily salted area in the winter..

Mind you his Sierra is a 4.8L with a 4 spd 4L60E trans.. Very reliable and ancient platform.. Tried tested and true as they say..? lol

I'm not here to argue. I'm just trying to provide fact over fiction.

The Tacoma and GMC 1500 can't even be compared really.... Not the same truck.

    Biggest things to consider.

    1. How many people do you haul Around?
    2. How much towing will you do?
    3. How much do you mind losing money over the long run?

Chevy will pack more people comfortably, Chevy will tow a heavier payload better and longer without stressing the motor or trans.
Chevy will lose value much quicker over time.

I love my Rock Lobster (tacoma) but when the time comes I have a family and toys like boats and campers and such nothing will replace the bigger v8 power of a Chevy. Or even deisel but I know that's not what you asked. So ask yourself those questions. When I was purchasing my truck I noticed that a 2008 Tacoma depreciated less than the Chevy "equivalent" so msrp of the taco was like 26k and I bought it for 16,9k (which i got a good deal because they were asking 19k). the Chevy msrp for a 2008 was around 30k with the closest amount of options as the taco but I could get one for about 10k or so with similar miles and condition. And np2 I have equity in my taco. I owe just under 13k and it's still worth 16k maybe more to the right buyer. Also the taco will last you much much longer depending how you answered the questions. Daily use no towing the drivetrain in the taco is a beast and will go forever! The 4l60e trans in the Chevy has been known to go out quickly on some but last forever on other. Now the motor in that thing is a work horse!!!! The vortex 5.3 or the 6.0 will go forever.

That's about as much info and insight I can give. Good luck!!!
