I know its a constant recurring question around here about UCA's but here it goes. I have lifted the front of my 2nd gen with ICON extended travel coilovers and now the truck wanders a little at high speed and the UCA hits the coilover when extended. I am interested in getting new UCA's but need some help deciding on which ones.

I have already ruled out the light racing's because i'm not really comfortable with how they work. So that leaves Total chaos uniballs and Camburg uniballs or ball joint UCA's. I believe the Camburg ball joint UCA's are probably the best option for the price as i don't really do a lot of hard core off road. when on trails i baby my truck so i don't break or wear things out.

The issue i have with them is that in discussion with the guys at camburg they explained that new aftermarket ball joints may or may not fit due to loose tolerances of the ball joint. they only recommend OEM toyota ball joints to be used. The real issue here is that toyota does not sell just the ball joint and when my ball joint wears out i will need to by the whole upper control arm assembly from toyota for new ball joints and could cost in the long run more than the uniball UCA's including the future wear and tear.

    to wrap this up:

Are ball joints wearing out in 2nd gens a common issue?
About how long do the uniballs them selves last before needing replaced?
Has anyone used the camburg ball joint UCA's that can give some thoughts on how the like/dislike them?
Brand preference and reason (uniball UCA's)

also im not sure where i heard or read it but i believe uniball, heims for suspension parts are not approved for road use by DOT. I could be wrong on that, but if anyone has some input i would appreciate it.

LR arent uniball, They are a good choice over stock but of course if your searching for the best set, you are going to be looking at the ICON because of the uniball structure.

OP i think if you have Icons in the front that you would probably be best off just matching them with Icon UCAs. That way it is uniform and will probably work the best since im sure icon makes them to work best in conjunction with there other products like there coil overs.

Yah i agree with OZ... I can understand having a preference between Uniball and joint but they all work the same way... A control arm is a control arm hahaha

My favorite part of that is " I baby my truck so i dont break or wear things out" I hate to break it to you but any off roading is going to wear things out at a faster rate then you would keeping it a mall crawler. Theres a difference between babying it off road and off roading it sensibly. No matter what things are going to break and wear out when you decide to off road your truck man.

I've been reading more about the light racings and how they can slide, throwing off your alignment (wich has happened before). I have seen more issues with those than other brands, so i decided to go with UCA's that have had less issues. I just want to go with some thing simple with less possible parts to move. Those may work for most people but i just dont really want to get them. Just personal preference.

I do off road sensibly. im not like the guys out there that will try to muscle through obstacles and try and bust the trail out at high speeds. that is what i ment by that.

I'm just looking to see what people have used and how they like them. Not so much a sales pitch for why i should buy Light racing.

    Fair enough

FWIW , the reason the LR UCA's can slide at the top is because you can adjust camber with them , which to my knowledge you can't with any of the others

Good luck in your choices OP
