Great point! I just assumed the WRX (my fault for assuming) would be the same or slightly less. I’m 35 with no traffic violations/accidents. But I’ll absolutely check into that..

To attest to the financing aspect of your reply - the salesman was trying to say “well, here’s a great monthly number for you.. at 84 months”. So needless to say I told him if I was going to make the switch didn’t want to be increase my loan term by any means. I made it clear I wanted to stay at the same term or shorter. The good thing is, he seemed pretty motivated to sell, which in todays market says a lot. Also - I’m sure he was interested in making some money of my trade-in also..

Take advantage of the good deal on the WRX. Have FUN - Drive the s**t out of it for 2, 3, or 4 years. Definitely unload it before the powertrain warranty expires. Then buy a 4th gen Tacoma which by then will have all the new model kinks ironed out.

Get it. Get it. Get it. If you have no need for a truck then get the wrx. I was also debating on the wrx or gr86 or grcorolla(aka wrx sti). But i will be keeping my tacoma. Just need another car for weekend cruise.

Any reason in particular you decided to keep the truck?

Interesting that I let go my 21 STI for my Tacoma. And came by my STI by trading my WRX.
Having owned all 3, they were great at what they do. The STI was a huge step up from the wrx, but I know they don't make the sti any longer. The wrx is a sure footed, fun family sedan. Don't get one thinking it's a pure sport car. I also was never sold on wrx/sti reliability. They definitely have theor issues if not driven properly or maintained.
    Enjoy your decision.

Thanks for your input! Are Subaru’s more maintenance finicky in general? How sturdy/reliable is the boxer overall? Because, If I’m going to go back to a car, especially a turbo’d manual, you better believe I’m going to rag on it here and there..

I’m really not too familiar with the platform if I’m being completely honest, but people do seem to love their subie’s..

People love their subie. Truth. It's an odd give and take. The 2.0 seamed to be the less troublesome option over the 2.5, but the STI had the far better transmission and awd system. They seamed to be prone to ringland failure. And cylinder 4 was always in question. Peoe doing the #4 cooling mod. Also extremely finicky to tuning. Don't throw parts at them without knowing exactly what your doing.
The awd system is also picky. Tires need to be a predetermined depth within each other. You couldn't just replace 1 tire if needed (if they were all worn) because the awd system would recognize the height difference and cause issues. All in all, my sti was crazy fun, but my heart and living in moab brought me back to Tacoma

I have 2 vehicles. Taco TRD OR '23 and Corvette coupe Z51 option '09. The Taco is a great truck. The Vette is, well a Vette. True American V8 world class real sports car. Always wanted one. If I could only have 1 it would be......Taco.

I've had a turbo Subie, after five others that were non-turbo. Loved it.

I've also had three Tacos. Loved them.

In the last couple of days we've been discussing an Outback... but I'd keep the truck.

About a month ago I was deciding between a 3rd gen and a wrx. Like you, I've wanted a wrx since forever. I even test drove one, but in the end, I felt like I didn't love the wrx.

I then had my heart set on a GR86, but they're so complicated to find one at MSRP. The waitlist was ridiculously long at a dealer who sold for MSRP. I was willing to travel to other states to find one but then ended up finding a 3rd gen Tacoma for $2.2k off MSRP and decided to go for it instead.

I love to off-road. It's why I bought another Tacoma. But in reality, I am off-road only 5-10% of the time. The other 90-95% of my time spent in it is boring commuting. If you don't off-road, then that means 100% of your time is spent driving emotionless and absolutely 0% fun. With the wrx, you would be having a blast 100% of the time. Hope that makes sense.

In conclusion, get the wrx. You know you want it, so do it. Also when I was looking, there were much better deals than $1.5k off MSRP. Keep looking. It's a 2022 vehicle after all.
