Both people seem like to both on TW, but which one is better? My truck will see off road every so often, but nothing too serious.

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
I did both the Deck Plate mod and have an aFe Pro Dry.

More air flow all around, plus I can just wash the filter now instead of buying a new one each time.

Deckplate is good for an improvement over a stock box and with an adequate filter it performs nicely, sounds a little better too. Not as loud as a whole intake setup but still have the option to put in/take out the deck plate vs running an open cone filter like a 3.4 k&n

This is from way back. You can "try" the deck plate mod on a 3.4 with this nearly free noninvasive method.

With tin snips, cut down a medium binder clip. Then open the air box lid 90 deg and wiggle it back to the rear. It will detach and you can "clip" the top edge of the filter against the top lip of the box with the same effect as the springs on the stock lid. If you don't have the cruise control actuator in the way it may be possible to just lay the top back all the way.

If you size the clips correctly, they will not come off unless you pry them off, of course they can always be tethered. In this case plastic coated SS fishing leader.

You could also just do the normal deckplate mod and if you don't like it, put the plate back in lol.

I only put mine back in when mudding

Now, The AFE is re-usable, but I was reading that it still needs to be oiled. Am I missing something? I just bought one the other day

No. You don't oil the aFe Pro Dry...hence the. "Dry" part of the name. You air dry it after washing. No oil = no screwing up your MAF.

    Are you SURE?

    aFe Web Site

Change the dropdown to Pro Dry S.

The other one, the Pro 5 R looks like it DOES require oil, as it's a related product at the bottom.

I got a 4" from the marine section at academy. They have them at Wal mart and Home Depot, too. They're like $5
