hey guys. This seems to be asked a lot but I can't retain consistent information/specs on the deck plate mod. My questions include:
When driving is the the hole covered?
How much hp is gained? (2004 v6)
if there is a gaping hole in my air box, what keep the filter from getting absolutely filthy?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bought one on Amazon. I already had a 4.5" hole saw. it does make a little more noise when you get on it and that may stimulate the butt dyno but all in all I think at most like 2-3hp with everything else being in top shape.

somewhere there was a post on this if you search, it had dyno results

I did it on my 99 and I did notice it was more responsive . I don't have any numbers because I never had it dino tested. But if I had to guess I would say 2 maybe 3 HP.

makes a much more noticeable difference in the 4 cylinders then the 6 but I think that its just because the 4's are so weak.

problem with the 4's is the box is made and shaped different so its a lot harder to get a good seal on the deck plate. this is why I just removed and cut off the 90 inside the fender in my 2.4 99 taco to get the same "free air" and power increase without needing to cut the box or needing the deck plate. I think with the v6 you need the large size of the deck plate just to do anything because it needs more air and the box is smooth and flat so the installation and seal is easier.

since I don't off road, if i ever felt the need to, I will just get a 4" toilet flange ring and put a screen in it http://www.homedepot.com/p/Sioux-Chief-1-4-in-Flange-Extension-Ring-886-RQ/203176248

everything i read from people with v6 that do the deck plate mod is it makes no difference and is a waste of time.

It's uncovered in the beginning, you'll cover it up when you realize that you get

    No real HP increase

And as long as you stay out of the mud it won't get any dirtier. If you play in the mud it will get dirtier than pulling air from inside the fender.

If you have a 5hp gokart that is at full throttle all the time and add 1 hp to it, you'll notice it. If you have a 100hp and you add 1 hp that you only see at full throttle, it's a completely negligible increase. When a main focus of a mod is that it's 'completely reversible', it's probably a worthless mod.

MOST bolt on mods fall into the worthless category. You'll spend a bajillion dollars to get 5 hp that you almost never see.

The deck plate mod is TWs version of the tribal arm band tattoo. It demonstrates you are a real TWer.

Not for nothing, but a lot of people, (myself included) cant think of something as really "theirs" until they make their own changes to it.

Often that includes things that only make a difference in their head.

TW is if nothing else, imperical evidence of exactly that.
