It will fit just fine. Remove the intake box, and put the deck plate right in front. THe windshield washer fluid filler will be in the front, but its not a deal. It will still flow fine. Use a 4", and get some sensor safe sealant. :)

I have a question. I have already removed the elbow from the intake side of the airbox and noticed some performance improvements. Would I see further improvements by doing the deckplate mod as well?

    Thanks

Is there a reason this won't work the same on the V6 second generation engines?

I did this mod on my 02 2.7L and after I did it my check engine light came on. I was thinking that the computer was just thinking the O2 sensor was malfunctioning. Or that there was too much air getting to the engine. Is this a problem and how could i go about fixing it?

go to autozone or advance auto parts, let them scan it with thier computer, & bring those codes they give on here (start a new thread) & someone will tell u what the codes mean. i dont think the deck plate mod caused ur check engine light come on!

    getting there....
how long ago was it...and did you use silicone behind the deckplate? if so...chances are the fumes triggered the cel, and you can disconnect the battery for a bit and it'll clear it up.

Perhaps a wire or hose isn't attached? After I did my mod, that little black hose that comes into the front of the air box from the driver's side pops out occasionally. Although it never set any lights off, my power seemed to decrease a bit...or I could be crazy.

Also, has anybody put the deck plate on the side?

So let me get this straight with the deck plate mod ur cutting a large hole into the stock air box which is bascially a CAI sucking in hot engine bay air...I thought colder more dense air creates more horsepower

a deck plate is what they use on boats, you can find them a boat shop and you cut a whole in the intake put in the frame to it and seal it up. the there is a plate that screws in and seals up so if you go off-roading you dont intake any water.

when you cut a whole you are getting more air flow throw the engine, you just have to think of the engine as a big air pump the more air you can get through the more power you can make and the faster it will rev. bigger exhaust and intake ports, but with the exhaust dont go to big unless you have forced induction or you will loose power, because you need a back pressure(a vacuum pulling the exhaust gasses out the tail pipe creating more power.

I know that...but why not try and force more cool air into the stock box instead of cutting a big hole and leting in "hot" engine bay air...
