deck plate mod

so you guys who have done this, how did you cut the hole in the airbox

I used a hole saw then I took some tin snips and cut the outer edges cuz it wasn't quite big enough.

 

ok because i have a intake on my truck but pretty sure it wont pass smog because i dont have a carb sticker for it, since i kept all my stock intake pieces i was just going to try this out

 

I drew the outline. Drilled small holes in the line. Took a jigsaw and went around. The holes let me start it. Overly complicated? Maybe. Perfect circle. Yes

 

jigsaw. little tight in a couple places but it worked.

 

x2 on the dremel. The perfect circle is just peace of mind I guess, because the deck plate lip is going to cover everything anyway. You could cut out an octogon if you need to.

 

I also used a jigsaw. But I did not cut the hole. Man that would have helped alot.

Drill for pilot holes, jigsaw to do the major cutting and a dremel with a grinding wheel to smooth out the hole. Oh, and drill again for the 4 holes to mount the plate

 

ok probably gonna do this wednesday, i'll let you all know how it goes im just afraid of the airbox breaking or something

 

Not much chance in that, that is some thick plastic.

Actually try to cut the hole as tight as possible... trimming a little is easier than trying to fill in huge gaps

 

all i used was a drill and a drywall key-hole saw. it took a little while longer then if i had of had a jig-saw but it worked just fine!

i just punched it out w/ my fist

Used a dremel tool with a drill bit. Worked real well in my old Tacoma's 3RZ airbox as week as my new one's 5VZ one.
