I have a 2003 V6 I'm considering modding the air intake but not sure which to do.

Cold air intake from eBay (under $60) comes with heat shield also. And if the air filter that comes with it shits the bed I can always get a K&N filter to replace it.

    Or

Deck plate mod and put a K&N filter in it.

    You need another choice.

    "Do nothing"

It's been proven that the factory air box is already a cold intake. The deck mod only makes the intake sound like the engine is making more power. It's not.

In addition the deck mod can make you fail the smog test. Replacement air boxes are getting expensive for our trucks.

Sorry about the long winded response.

Back when I had my 2002 3.4L I had the deck plate mod. Never failed California smog. I later closed it up and did the elbow mod. It’s inside the fender. Connects from the air box to the fender snorkel. Cut the 90 degree off and reinstall.

For the best performance and reliability...leave it alone, and spend the money elsewhere. JMO.
