    She's gone but not forgotten.
K&N makes cleaning kits, IIRC they're called "filtercharger kit" or something similar. I used the kit on my drop in, not hard but time consuming waiting for the oil to spread through the filter.

EDIT Oops someone beat me to it...yup that's it!

I got this DP from Bass Pro Shops. I think it was $9 at the time.

Paired with the K&N drop in my taco breathes a lot better.

This I believe. K&N has been around a long time and most everyone I know that is into drag racing told me it has NO effect. Good marketing though.

I called 3 boating places in town and they didn't know what the hell I was talking about with a deck plate. Bought one off e-bay and going to install this weekend, along with 5100's, 5 leaf pack, and a dash bulb replacement. I hope all goes well.

I think many are getting confused.......

There are K&N drop in filters and K&N Intakes.

The K&N Intake is better for HP than the deckplate mod.

Many are saying the K&N does nothing but they are talking about just a new K&N filter.

The K&N intake easily is 5-10 HP more.

I had a deckplate before I switched to the intake and the intake has a noticeable increase.

Did you dyno a K&N Intake??? .... It is different than just dropping in a K&N filter.

    There is a big difference

Just installed K&N intake. I actually had the opportunity today to put it on the dyno. i had paid and everything but they were taking to long so i left. So im not sure what the hp/lb increase is but it sure as hell sounds mean at wide open throttle and it may just be my imagination but it sure seems to get up and go a little faster. :burnrubber:

I've had both and the K&N didn't do much other than change my sound and give me worse low end performance. There was a definite bump in the power but not until much higher revs than I usually drive. If you like paying a couple hundred dollars for sound and a VERY slight increase, and losing low end power, go ahead and get the K&N. I really think a lot of the perceived increase in power is your brain trying to justify the expense of the intake, along with the increase in sound.

The deckplate didn't give me a lot more power than the KN, but it did better in the lower rev range for me so I sold my KN and kept the deckplate. I put in an AFE dry filter, I like it better than the KN mainly because I don't have to worry about too much oil or my MAF sensor.

For doing the deckplate mod, just type in google "toyota tacoma deckplate mod" or something along those lines. There are several different threads in a few different forums that illustrate the process, but it's pretty simple. Just make sure you know where the air filter is before you start cutting, you don't want to cut a hole downstream from the air filter!

Ok so I bought a k&n intake, installed it and when I'm on a dead stop and I gun it. I notice my truck isn't quick like it used to be with the deck plate. Anyone with the same problem?

That's exactly why I got rid of mine, that's what I was saying just above, it changes your powerband and for me at least it took away low end power.
