Too expensive IMO. Plus on the Tacoma would really hurt fuel economy. And for me at least, I need bed space. Midsize trucks lack bed height which is fine but means I'm sacrificing more now.

At 12" tall you might as well just put a tonneau cover on it! How high are the wheels wells in the box 8" maybe?

I don't think this type of product is for truck owners with tonneau covers. I had a tonneau on my '06 and that was enough security/protection for me. These are for folks with an open bed or a cap. I have a cap so that (among other things) I can sleep in the bed while camping. A drawer unit like DECKED provides me with the platform to sleep on AND storage underneath. 12" is just about the best height you can choose to optimize storage space in the drawers and head room up top. I recently built my own platform out of 3/4" ply. I used 2x8's for the support beams (they rest in the slots that are built into the composite bed lining) and lay a 2-piece plywood top over that. Works pretty well. About 8-8.5" of space underneath and enough space up top to sleep comfortably.

I have a friend who's got one and it's pretty bad a@$, but he's got a FULL SIZE truck. That thing is massive and I can't imagine a version that doesn't take up the whole bed for Taco's, and still make the drawers a usable height. Maybe that's just me.

Yeah, if you get one for your Taco almost the entire bed will be used up. Drawers, from what I hear, are about 8.5" deep. Totally depends on what you need/want to store. A lot of items simply wouldn't fit, but if you have small tools, camping items, etc., it'll work fine. I've also looked at the disassembly video and it's not too bad to take apart and store. You certainly wouldn't want to do that often, but you can if/when you need to haul a lot of items that require the full depth of the truck bed. Again, this product will work well for some and not others. Overall though, when you look at this product market, DECKED seems to be the best design and most affordable price. I've looked into it pretty extensively and outlined that in another thread post on 11/12/16 (https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/sleeping-platform-ideas-picts.146443/page-4#post-13646943).

My friend was a sales rep for them for a few years. His truck had one mounted in the bed. It's decent size, but not huge filling the bed.

This looks like the most reasonably priced drawer system that is model specific. Definitely interested to see what the Tacoma version looks like.

The rep I talked to at the Overland Expo West said that they hope to hit the July release, but it most likely will be late summer, but "for sure" before the end of the year. They had a Tacoma bed in the trailer full of other brand truckbeds, but it was empty, so they don't even have one to demo yet :(

This is good feedback and provides insight. It looks like they have not invested in the actual molds to make the product. They may have spent the money to design but the cost to open a mold is significant. The large plastic parts with large metal in mold inserts are complicated and expensive to produce.
The Toyota Tacoma is the best selling "mid-size" truck on the market. Their main market is full-size trucks. If a similar company has money to invest it should be in new product development. This leads me to the question of why not invest in the Tacoma? New generation full sized trucks have entered the marketplace and need investment, not a big enough market, life is good and they are counting stacks of money and don't want to bother or not enough cash flow. Looking forward to your thoughts and ideas.

    That sounds about right.

They also might be waiting for more of the new midsize trucks to be released so they can design a single product for the whole segment.

The deck system is a very generic system for a truck. Other than the top deck which is molded to fit the shape of the bed it is the exact same system regardless of what truck it goes into.

I talked to a salesperson and the mid-size truck design will have 1 full size width drawer and 1 (new) smaller size drawer design. She also told me that we will need to drill holes in the bed for mounting near the cab.

I got this URL when responding to an email they sent me, this past week, about their other product lines. The rep also stated Fall is their current target time for release...

I gave up waiting for them to create a product that will work with the Tacoma. Last fall they told me that it would be released in the first or second quarter of this year. There are little things about the system that I am not a huge fan of, but I could live with them no problem. Since it's taking them so long I am all set to build my own. Bought a big stack of metal today at the hardware supply store and I'm going to start welding it up tomorrow.

Front system consists of Bilstien 6112 coil overs with Toytech top mounts creating 3" of lift, Total Chaos upper control arms, Supper Bumps, Pelfreybilt steel bumper and IFS skid plate, Spyder pro projector headlights, PIAA light bar and Ion yellow driving lights, Bushwacker fender flares. notice how the bumper mates to the flares looks like there part of a set couldn't be happier with the way that turned out. Rear system starts with All Pro standard 3" springs, U-bolt flip kit, Walker Evens 2.5 mono tube racing shocks and Super Bumps, Pelfreybilt steel bumper coming soon. I chose All Pro Apex sliders bolted and spot welded for there brut strength to protect the rockers. Next I'm putting stronger axles, big brake kit, Tom Woods shafts, intake and cat back.
Let me help a brother out one look and ur sold. ck out Diamondback problem solved

I wonder if it will be possible to tie the back end into the tie-down points that already exist in my bed.

I hope so, one of the big selling points for me was a no drill install like the full size trucks.

Just received this email from decked:

    "Hi Greg,

Thank you for your email and your interest in DECKED. We will be rolling out the mid-size systems at the end of this summer or early fall. If you want to click on the link below, you can sign up to be notified when they are available. You can also see a pretty cool video of what the mid-size system will look like as it's a little different then our current systems.

    DECKED MIDSIZE

    Thanks!"

First time poster here btw. This site has been a great source of info in my recent purchasing decisions. Just picked up my TRD Sport--access cab with MT. Love it so far, looking at ordering an ARE CX HD Series cap and the Decked system when they release it (assuming I've recovered from the hit of the truck). Here she is:IMG_0005.jpg
