I’m only finding Decked drawer systems for second and third gen short beds. Anyone know if they are compatible with the first gen or if there is one out there? I can’t find any diy drawer system examples for our truck so I’m getting desperate.

    4 run, 2 don't
Our trucks are too old for that kind of stuff; ton of DIY options out there that people have come up with.

You don't even need to look up Tacoma specific options, just google something in general and you'll find a ton of cool shit.

I have seen some basic ideas but I need specifics. There are so many weird shapes in the bed and I can’t tell if people cut around those are just build things small enough to ignore them. Also detailed step by step for a dunce like me.

Cool concept but $1200 seems steep.Im sure you could some drawer slide sets and build your own easier than you think I would imagine and for lot cheaper

I looked into that as well. I’m going to just build out my own. It’s a whole lot cheaper and save some cash for more mods.

Going to be rough if you need steep by step instructions.

Just what are you storing ??

It will be easier to build or have built just what you want in most cases rather then modify a product designed for another vehicle

That’s where I’m at as well. I was just hoping since I see them for sale used frequently in my area. You have a design figured out yet?

I've thought about this since I see decked systems pop up used all the time. You could potentially fit one from another vehicle, but the limiting factor is the width between the wheel wells and the length. I believe they make them for canyon, colorado, new ranger, and tacoma with the 74" bed. These would be a close fit, but you'd need to know how close the drawers get to the wheel wells. You could always cut the top pieces where it matches with the bed walls, but you really need to have one in front of you to take measurements.

There is a few on Youtube I'm considering.
I currently have this set up without drawers. I've seen the drawers on either side and it seems like it'll work just fine but I'm thinking a drawer system where its set up like "Decked" being that it goes across the entire width of the bed. I'm only in there to sleep.

Similar to @QMEDJoe , I also ended up building my own drawer system. Though I'm liking his the more I look at it!

First time I've ever built anything like this. I opted to only do one side to keep the rest as flexible space (totes, snowboards, etc.). Worked great for camping - though definitely some lessons learned while making this. Thing weighs a ton!

If you have access to some basic power tools, save your money and build one that meets your exact needs. There's a huge sense of accomplishment and satisfaction when you bring your ideas/designs into reality :)

Unfortunately we do not have a system that is compatible with the 1st Gen Tacoma bed. We are a sucker for a good custom build too so keep sending shots of how you configured your Gen 1 and maybe we can get some ideas!

If you want to maximize every square mm of space, then yes, there are some "weird" shapes. Guaranteed those Decked systems are just square boxes. They aren't vacuum formed the the shape of the bed. You'll notice all the drawer systems are narrow enough to fit inside the wheel wells.

It's just a couple boxes (drawers) within another box. If you have a straightedge, a speed square and some 2x4's, you can make a drawer system. Make it your own, and have fun building.

Yeah or pay a woodworker near you to make you a set of drawers.

I've seen some of the gear from Alu-Cab in South Africa, and I like their products. They have a distributor in the US that has developed a Gen 2-specific drawer plus deck system ($$$ Yikes!).

It doesn't seem to be distributed separately in the US, but something like their double-drawer setup at 148 cm (58.2") deep x 100 cm (39.4") wide x 28.5 cm (11.2") tall would mostly fill the bed on a Gen 1 truck and could have a deck made as needed. Their stuff isn't cheap, but it's very good quality.

If nothing else, this may give folks some ideas. Advantages of aluminum over plywood include space efficiency and waterproofness (in the sense of damage, not in the sense of sealing).

My Gen 1 truck is a couple of states away this winter, so I can't get detailed measurements between the wheel wells. Can someone confirm if this double set would fit or if it's too wide? Alu-Cab offer a 78.5 cm (30.9") single wide drawer that certainly would fit if the double won't.

Distance between the wheel wells on 1st gen is somewhere in the range of 38"-40".
I say the range because I believe they taper and have a rounded transition to the bed floor. So that alucab double drawer would be super close.

My buddy @Papadave418 is starting up a mobile kitchen org business. He's 3rd gen (but he's still a cool dude... lol). I'm not sure if he's thought about designing for 1st gen, or even if his design is specific to only 3rd gen. But you should check him out here.

    Thanks Matt. The kitchen design is L 58.75” x W 21.5” x H 18.75”
I wanted to combine a solution that had self-contained water, power, pantry, sink, burners, and storage. Plus once the mounts are installed it takes 3 minutes to remove to get your truck bed back. Fits most trucks depending on bed height.
    Good luck with the build!

I can tell you... Dave is a personal friend of mine. This guy is legit. And he's put a lot of thought and effort in to this design.
