Will it not work on the 2nd gens soley because of accessability? For example if i just disconnected the hose that connects to the air filter box i should recieve better air flow...correct? Basically wondering if the science behind it works , its just that it wont work soley because you cant get a 4 inch hole to fit there.

removing the hose that comes from the fender to the airbox will not be too good for the motor....you may get a little more air flow, but you'll be pulling hot air straight for the motor......and may take a chance on burning up your spark plugs and such. the actual setup from the factory is really a cold air intake.......cold air from the fenderwell.

the drop in filter is just a replacement air filter that fits in place of the stock one

I tried this mod (or a version) using a PVC 3" plug. Seems to work nicely. I can sure hear a difference around 2500-3k rpm. Performance seems better, throttle more responsive. I'm hoping for a bit better MPG, but happy with the above.
