Well, honoring the official symbol of my hometown, New Orleans, I finally did something I've wanted to do for a while.

I've had this finial (the ornamentation atop a wrought iron fence) for some time. I finally went to a welder, had him fabricate a 3/4 inch bolt to the bottom of it), and mounted it on my bull bar. I wanted it to go on the lower bar, but even after shortening it (notice the weld marks on the base), it wouldn't quite fit, so I mounted it on the top. Right now it got a rust patina to it. I am trying to decide whether to leave it as is, or to paint it Saints colors: gold with a a black outline, black with a gold outline, or silver to match the truck. The truck is otherwise shiny, so the rust look, although rugged looking, looks a bit out of place. I also have to paint that Toyota emblem black now too...

    Any thoughts on color?

I never noticed this before, but the Saints logo looks kind of like a peeled banana

The nut will have to be painted black, and the toyota emblem blackened. People here are nuts about the Saints...its NOLA ghetto for sure, but I kinda dig it. It would have worked better if it fit on the lower bar, but if I find two smaller ones I will mount them in the pre-drilled light holes, and ghetto it up even more...

Damn, y'all beat me to the banana observation. I thought that was just me! :D

I'd go with black to just match the bull bar. Def no gold - the yellow really would look like a banana then, and it'd kind clash with the truck.

Yeah, I vote black. Paint the nut too so it stands out less.

What about a small gold outline on the full black?

Placement doesn't do it for me, nor does the rust, nor does the nut, nor does the rubber band? on the nut, nor does Louisiana..

but my french/french Canadian heritage finds it vaguely .. attractive? whatever that emotion is. And I do like icons and iron. Its kind of metal, cept for the placement.. for a newish truck.. it needs some paint or something, like a little welding instead of bolting if its a threaded piece, you can spin it onto a carriage bolt.

Maybe better said with a decal.. but If it floats your boat, don't let anyone turn off your bilge pump. Just be prepared to steel your resolve.

My mother always told me, if you can't say something nice...

Power to ya, not my style, but original. I'd say post up some pics when it's painted and see if you can get rid of that big nut hanging out of the bottom.

Its Mardi Gras time all year here. People do all kinds of crazy things, so it actually might be considered subtle by NOLA standards...
