Now I’m just waiting on that Pelfrybilt cage.
Anyone have to lengthen the wires on the third gens like the second gens when switching over to a group 31?

It could just be because I'm north of the wall but you can't even get a decent deep cycle for $250 lol
Hell the group 27 deep cycle I just bought was $400.

Just be aware if you go dual you can't really have a bigger Aux battery than your main, so if you have group 24 you cant have bigger for aux than group 24.

For what its worth I have the off grid engineering dual battery set up and just bought close to $900 worth of batteries yesterday buying a group 27F north star and the rebranded canadian tire x2power group 27. I'm basically running a few lights and a fridge thats all and its all coming off the second battery. Basically two NorthStar as from what I understand x2power is a portion of Northstar.

If you don't want to go dual maybe look into doing a group 31 north star. Battery will be close to $500 probably but it will possibly be the cheapest way for a good quality battery that can handle what you're doing.

That's the battery I just put in. I didn't have to lengthen the wire but I did have to reroute the positive lead out the front on the junction box in order to get it to reach. The neg lead is fine as is.

I'm running dual Northstar batts. I wired the starting battery to the smaller group 35 on the passenger side and have the larger Group 31M on the drivers side to run accessories, winch etc. Ideally matched capacity is best for a dual system but as long as the two batteries are the same type and the same age it works just fine having the two different capacities (At least that's been my experience over the years).

I mounted a Blue Sea M-ACR on top of the Pelfrybilt Group 31 battery holder, so far the system is working great.

So is the consensus that the group 31 fits without extending the stock battery cables? Buying my grp 31 this week, have the pelfreybilt cage

Thanks. On a side note, I noticed the 31M Northstar has a 3 year replacement warranty and the non-marine 31 has a 4 year. Odd

    i have a 150 watt solar, 40amp mppt controller.

fridge has run stand alone for 8 months. most of the time empty. fridge has never once shut off and batteries have never dipped below 12v.

everything is left DC. but have an inverter i could run additional items off.

I think you can use a plastic tray from a 2nd gen (they used a larger battery than 3rd gens). Should be able to pick one for relatively cheap.

    Yes!
However it doesn’t look the prettiest and I removed the little cover for the box thing below the battery. I think it just shields the cables from the event of a belt breaking? Maybe?
Reguardless I drove 100 miles of the white rim trail with my Pelfreybilt cage and all was good. No shifting or anything crazy.
The cable is tight however but not so tight I was worried.
I had to put the terminal on a little sidways as you can see in the photo. Hope this helps!

Has anyone used these for main battery? https://www.vmaxtanks.com/MR137-120-Deep-Cycle-High-performance-AGM-Battery_p_28.html bought one.... but cables dont reach and screw in post that I've found dont have the right threads. Not sure how to extend the wires without the hassle of replace the whole cable. And to top that off, when I put it in I realized I'm going to need a bigger space on the drivers side coil (this thing weighs almost 80lbs)
