Hi all. Yes, another thread surrounding the dreaded rattles of our new beloved Taco's.

    Background: I have a 2017 Tacoma SR. 4 Cyl/5 Speed/4x4 38k miles.

Issue: Upon Acceleration in any gear, around 3-4k rpm, I have a very audible rattle that occurs in the center deep Dash area but then disappears in lower or higher rpms. Its situational, some days it happens and others it doesn't. I've tried jamming foam behind the dash up against the glass but that doesn't work.

Does anyone share my experience? It seems like a resonance vibration from the engine but I'm not sure.

    Any help is appreciated.

Had a similar rattle in my gen1 tundra after a couple years, and thought it was the dash. Mice..those little bastards filled the inside's of the hood with hickory nuts. Every space they could get a nut to fit between the sheet metal layers, they succeeded. I tried everything to remove those nuts...no go. To this day their probably still in there.

Crazy story! I feel that may be unlikely in my case but you truly.mevwr know. Another theory I've had is that a coin may have fallen into the defrost vent up against the glass, into the unreachable abyss.

Same thing happened to me when i had an older toyota 4x4 mini pickup. I did a lot of hunting with my .22 rifle...use to leave a box or two of ammo on the dash. Well some rounds fell in the vents and i never bothered to retrieve them. Never rattled though.

I would take off the trim around the radio and cluster and take it for a drive to see if you can pin point it better. If you go on youtube and look at the MESO install for vent rings they show you how to pull the trim off easily. It's not the dash rattling against the pillar trim by the tweeters?

    Hey 09,

Good tip but I've already done this. I've not eliminated the tweeters as a possibility but the sound is nowhere near the tweeters.

Hmm, sounds like something behind the radio probably and those rpms are the sweet spot for vibration to occur. I know my truck makes sounds where the dash meets the pillars after offroading or in severe heat when the plastic swells. Then it disappears after a few soft hits lol. Sounds piss me off so I get it. I would pull the head unit out next personally and drive it and see if it still does it. Or check the firewall from the engine side and see if anything is lose slapping around. Goodluck

    Mine does this exact thing
I wonder if I broke a plastic clip or something? Not even sure if it sounds like plastic. Some days there some days not. Can *usually* trigger it to happen when accelerating up hill.

Not surprising. I get a buzz and rattle from time to time. I haven't upgraded the terrible stock suspension in my SR yet, I imagine it will help.

Thank you all for the replies! I wonder if this is something exclusive to the 4cyl/5spd?
