Well I noticed the birds up there only a few days ago, it really wasnt too stinky but they made quick work of it. It actually smelled a little like an elk which I was surprised to see the buck...Im pretty sure it was only a deer there but I guess I should have looked around for another animal? I really would be torqued if there was an elk there too...

Amateur tip for everyone: always check out where ravens are flocking if possible...typically its an animal down and sometimes they have racks! When you start seeing white raven droppings everywhere you are close to where the animal is dead. I dont know why they do that but Ive noticed it a lot.

Bear meat is good stuff. They are in the pig family.

    Now pronghorn is NASTY.

I lived in CO for awhile and I don't eat any mammals there. Not sure if the stuff in other parts of the US is any better.

I'm from the midwest so I'm used to corn fed deer. The stuff out west just tastes horrible. Must be the sage brush.

Actually they are closer related to dogs than pigs.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear

But bear burgers are good to eat. Ive had one roast and it wasnt the best but that could have been the recipe.

My dad got two bear in AZ and brought some back. I cut off a steak and it was pretty awesome. Was impressed. You don't expect a semi carniverous animal to taste good.

They are around but Ive never targeted them specifically. If I see one it will get shot though. They have some about 1-2hr drive from me, others have said theres packs closer but Ive yet to see them.

I wish. I'm just moving within Washington. I already bought my non-res tag for Idaho. North Idaho is my real home though. As soon as I can do my same job and work remote 99% of the time I'll be back.

I actually picked Nov 1st to head over partially based on the article you posted in this thread. Previous years I've been getting there the weekend before Thanksgiving and I'm thinking I could have been there earlier. Still got a deer each year though. Got a buck last year with a weird drop point sticking out right in front of his eye. He was probably poking some eyes out!
