Got my first deer today. Decided to start hunting on our land about a month ago and have been out at dusk every weekend I could. Have only seen does, but never had a great shot to take. After seeing the deer partying on the driveway in the middle of the day I decided to go out mid morning and finally got one. 130 lbs, roughly 3-4 years old according to the processor. Decent for a first deer?

And yes, that’s a PSA AK with iron sights. Might stir up some parts of the interwebs

    Story time.
So a good friend of mine killed a 197 inch buck with his crossbow a few weeks ago, I posted a picture of it but here’s a reminder.IMG_7405.jpg
Now here’s where it gets interesting. During our first gun season Nov. 22 he shot a 200 inch class buck at 140 yards with a shotgun. The buck dropped in his tracks and flopped around for a bit, so he got down out of his blind. The buck was in a pasture when he shot it and the pasture had a little rise in it. When he got on top of the rise the buck was gone and he had no idea which way it went. There was a small amount blood where the buck dropped but no trail to follow. He wanted to bring in a tracking dog but the guy was swamped with calls.
After several agonizing days of looking for this monster he finally came to the realization that he was not going to find.
I was helping another buddy butcher 3 does this morning when my buddy that I was helping got a call from the other buddy and I could hear him say I FOUND HIM!!
He and his son were doing some doe control last night and had shot a couple in which one of them ended up in a deep ravine. When they got to the bottom of the ravine they found the doe and the buck he shot during gun season. This pig scores 210 inches.IMG_3418.png
