Still out there. I saw one tiny doe. And my fat ass was camped right on top of those acorns. :frusty:

Like I said earlier I bought one of these kits from Dixie Gun Works. Did NOT hunt at all during the 4 day muzzleloader season and instead of going out in the below freezing weather to just shoot/unload my flintlock, I used this toy this morning.
Worked SLICKER THAN DOG SHIT!!!! Cable-tied a wash cloth around the muzzle end of the barrel (saw this on youtube), removed the touch hole screw and sent a short blast into the breech. Sabot and bullet came out and stayed in the washcloth, so it is reusable. Sent another slightly longer blast to clean more of the powder. Now, I will clean it the old fashioned way.

I wonder though......would a blast of compressed air from my compressor do the same thing?? Would have saved me $60 (includes s/h) but that wasn't the point of my question.

Just wondering if the tool/toy is really necessary as opposed to regular compressed air?

    Thanks, guys!!!

Season is over for me. Didn't go as well as I had hoped, but that's how it is some years. I had a bad case of shingles this fall that I am still having effects from. I passed on a few early deer just because I didn't feel good enough to clean them. I guess that's the reality of getting old. I did get meat in the freezer and that was the goal.

Next years goal will be to bloody two new rifles. A 38-55 and a 6mm ARC. Always fun for me to mix hunting with gun choices. I know many just view the gun/cartridge as a tool but I get enjoyment out of using specific rifles and cartridges for my hunting.

    Maybe it's worth trying.
If it works, it's fine for home use. The Co2 gadget is small and fits in a shooting box and you can use it anywhere.
I use Black Powder shotguns, flint and cap locks for Turkey and wonder if a compressor would do the job.
    Again, worth trying.:notsure:

I think the CO2 is a drier air, so less chance of introducing moisture, and rust, into the nooks and crannies. Sounds like you were planning on cleaning it thoroughly afterwards, so I’m not sure how big of a threat rust would be for you anyway.

I don’t know. I carry the unloader on long trips into the mountains or bush camping/hunting trips. I feel like The spirit of the thing is to save a hunting trip. Essentially eliminating being forced back home to my air compressor. If I was going to unload a good shot. I’d take the gun to some pullout and a target to get a practice shot in!

my first year hunting in the UP I hunted hard and often with little to no local guidance. (Story of my life) As the sun was setting on the very last day of the season. A group of doe was blazing down a migratory trail in the snow. I was squatted down in an adjacent logging road. Rifle pointed towards them and they all shuffled away. Over my right shoulder I see a buck standing in my logging road not a chain away, staring at me!! I spun on my planted foot and got him center mast. He was/is my smallest 8 pointer but one of my favorite harvests! Hang in there man.

It was so cold he froze nearly solid after hanging overnight.

Anytime I've been invited to hunt some's land, I always made sure of the rules on what could and couldn't be shot before I ever set foot on the property. I killed a decent 10 pointer here in N.C. several years ago, He wasn't the biggest buck killed on the property, but my Buddy said that he was the most symmetrical one of all the bucks he saw. But yeah, dickheads that cant' follow some simple rules, Like we're here to hunt all day.

I've done that before, Not seeing the nubs on his head, and thought it was just a small doe, but in the end, it's Meat in the Freezer.

Oooohhhhh What a Lucky Man He Was.

Remember Mel Gibson in the Patriot telling his younger sons, Aim Small, Miss Small. Good luck on culling those does.

Yea I didn’t think I had to cover the rule of not shooting a fawn :rofl:

I guess in his defense, I didn’t verbalize that before we hunted.

But to your point, I’ve had to ban a couple guys over the years for stupid shit. One of them is my buddy’s dad who will never step foot on my land again as long as I own it.
