    What surgery?
Will you be out of a sling by the time you hunt?

Load tested at the range today. Looked at a couple Federal factory loads but ended up just loading more of my own recipe for whitetail; 130 grain TTSX in front of 48 gr of Varget. Cooks along at 3000 fps and lets me hold flat out to 250 yds. Went with fancy nickel cases sourced from the Federal factory loads.

.223s kill game much bigger than that every year. It's the Indian, not the arrow. Just use a good bullet and put it where it's supposed to be.

My first choice in factory ammo would be the VOR-TX 55gr TSX or Federal Premium 60gr nosler partition.

Like a shoulder replacement? (You replace bone not muscle)

Ask your surgeon. If they say no, then no.

Take a year off and focus on nothing but healing. A shoulder replacement (as with most shoulder surgery) is very painful and limiting for the first 6 months.
It's not worth the risk of your dominant hand to shoot a deer or risk falling out of a stand(if you plan on using one).

Speaking as a fellow shoulder surgery survivor.

Recoil is nowhere near a bolt action. On a bolt 308 3-6 rounds and I am good, on a Ar 10 we went through 5 20 rd magazine like nothing, except it hurt in the wallet. And weight on a sling 9 lb :spy:

oh heck no, bow season just opened up Saturday and I quick chasing that rabbit a few years ago. a guy I went to high school with shot a copper head and a cotton mouth opening day, and that just reassured me that I was write to do so. I wont get in the woods till nov 18th (muzzle loader starts the Monday before rifle season but I would rather take a week off work during rut, plus I don't have a muzzle loader)

I dunno how he saw that copper head, unless that oak leaf is just huge, that thing is tiny, and just the right size to come out of nowhere and ruin your morning

    I need to do this.
Receiver hoist with electric winch. If winch was on portable side it could be used for trailer.
