Went for about an hour and a half after work today. I’m having absolutely 0 luck so far this year. Had a doe appear through a thicket at about 50 yards. Worked down toward me to about 20, but she was coming straight at me so I couldn’t move. I kept watching. Never saw anything else with her, so I stood up and turned around when she walked behind me. Had her broadside at 30 yards. Pulled back, and as soon as I did, another one blew and they both ran off. I never saw the other one. Don’t know what it was or even where it was.

I jumped 6 yesterday, I prob would have shot one of the big does but she wouldnt let me shoot her! dang survival instinct! ;) I did possibly have a shot on a small spike but he was behind a tree branch and I couldnt get a good yardage on it. It seemed like it was closer but with the sticks in the way I couldnt get a good read. I havent seen any elk this week :(

Passing on a young doe but wishing you had a rifle on the young buck... You know the buck will grow bigger antlers next year and the doe's will be the same right? Haha

The buck had a good sized body...the young doe didnt...Im not too overly picky about antlers, depending on how good a shot I have. Primarily I hunt for meat not antlers...that being said I wont pass up a good antlered buck, also I only have one deer tag so I have to make the overall best choice for amount of meat vs amount of antlers. :)

I have a couple crossfire II's in 3-9x50's. Good glass for the money, watch the sales too. Last year Cabelas (I think) had them on sale for $89. I have a predator in 6.5 creedmoor, it's topped with a diamondback hp 4-16x42. The glass is much better than crossfire and better than the plain diamondback. I prefer 50mm or 56mm objectives but I've come around to really liking it.

The one deer tag thing would kill me. We get 3 bucks a year and 2 does per day during doe season (or a buck and a doe per day) and if you hunt with a bow you can shoot does all season

 They just changed the rules for us this year, only 2 buck tags and 4 doe. It was 2 buck, 2 either sex and 2 doe last year. Our bow season came in on the 8th and rifle season comes in Oct 13th. I shot 5 last year (passed up well over 100) could have tagged out on the last day but it was 19 degrees and really windy. Didn't feel like cleaning a measly ol' doe in that cold

Edit: I think my license and tags were around $30 (NC) Also It was 4 antlered or antlerless and then 2 antlerless last year.

Here is Sheridan County Wyoming there is no limit on white-tail does. You have to buy a tag for each one, but they well sell you as many tags as you want. Could bag 1000 if you wanted. There is also no limit on mule deer does, but there is only a limited number of tags, when they are sold there is no more. The most I have done in one year is eight. That was a lot of butchering, but sure filled the freezer nicely.

Expanded archery is open here in Maine. I haven’t taken my archery safety course yet so I can’t now hunt. I’m waiting on rifle season. But first gotta do some bird hunting!

It's not the whole state, only certain areas that are overrun with them.

So my daughter shot her first buck this evening. The guy sitting next to her is the landowner who is nice enough to let us hunt on his property.
