Same. If it's opening day of the season and I have a 100lb doe walk in front of me I'm dropping her just as fast as if she were a 200lb 10-pointer. As long as I have a doe permit, at least. If I don't, I'll sit there and stare at her while I try to will a big buck into existence

It was slim pickings so I am super super happy with it. He is pretty cool and will look good on the wall and taste good in my belly. Good luck! I shot at an elk for archery season. The whole story is here if you feel like reading a long story haha https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/archery-talk.24572/page-152#post-18742208

Went walking around right at dusk on my land yesterday and bumped a small 8 point. Then at lunch today I stepped outside to practice some rattling, low and behold that same buck was bedded down about 200 yards from the house in some soybeans and took off running. I know the pre-rut is in full swing here with the rut just a week or two away. Going to do some still hunting/stalking with rattling tomorrow morning and see what happens.

Great write up on the elk hunt! Nothing better in my book than a big country solo hunt! It takes me a day or two to get used to be totally alone, but I love it! Total reset. Keep after 'em, you'll never regret a moment spent chasing big game. There will definitely be lows (missed animals, wounded animals, personal injuries, broken or lost gear....the list goes on), but don't believe for a minute that you're the only one experiencing it. Each one of those is a teachable moment that will make you a better hunter.

Heart is pretty good, but anymore I usually just grind it and mix it in with the burger.

Liver is one of the few things I don't like. I don't waste it though. I slice it thin and dehydrate it until its hard. Use it for dog treats, they love it. I also save the lungs, ribs and all the scraps for dog food.

Interesting idea! I don't have dogs but friends/family do. Do you dehydrate the lungs as well?

The lungs are usually turned into jelly if I aim right!

I'm a lung shooter myself, but not sure if the dogs would care. :)
