Deer hunting BS thread

Would you pay 3-$5k to shoot it, if so I might start pimping my deer out...Oh wait that would make me an outfitter,forget it!!

If your talkin bout my 8pt yes its 2 1/2. and damn proud of it.after youv had a heart surgrey and both knees rebuilt then you can preach to me. but the stud i posted the page before is on our 5000 acre managed lease. 130in or better is our goal. the 8pt came off 5 acres a guy lets me hunt. on our lease were in managment program with game commision they tell us how many does can shoot. thats where we get our meat. my 8 is a nono on our lease. but we bust deer with no eye guards to get them out of heard. huntin is still suppose to be fun! ive let ton of deer go bigger than the 8pt.were on 3 on lease rite now pushin160. they dont get big by bein stupid. the rut will tell!

 

I guess I've never been much of a trophy hunter when it comes to deer. Grew up hunting small tracts of land with plenty of hunting pressure all around. Most of the areas were 40-100 acres. Letting a buck walk mostly allowed the neighbors to shoot it. I don't buy red meat in a store. I eat year round what I shoot in the fall. I like to get a large animal every other year and 4-5 deer every year. I'm not opposed to shooting a trophy deer, but at the end of the season I expect a full freezer. A 2yr old eats as well as a 5yr old.

I know several people who hunt and don't eat their deer. I do wonder where some of that meat ends up eventually. Seems strange to me to be a hunter and not enjoy the meat. I let plenty of deer walk throughout the season, but see nothing wrong with shooting what's in front of you to have meat in the freezer.

 

strictly trophy hunters that only hunt for antlers is also strange for me. The best part of the trophy is the meat IMO. Its been a number of years since we bought ground beef. The only ground beef we eat is at a restaurant. I had a nice t-bone steak a friend gave me and while it was a good steak it just wasnt the same as a wild game back strap

 

Yep. People think it's strange when I tell them I eat a beef steak once or twice a year at a restaurant and the occasional fast food burger, but other than that no beef. I eat a lot of red meat though. Right now I have plenty of ground moose and will be putting most of my deer in as roasts or large muscle groups for the crock pot. I use that meat for French dip sandwiches or fajitas. My 22yr old daughter never really developed a taste for beef as we never had it at home. She comes home once a month with her cooler and takes deer and moose/elk back home with her.

 

I got to get on my game and shoot a deer, now that my wife got one. I always feel bad getting one before her... But once she shoots one its game on for me!

 

you said it better than i ever could. grew up huntin 40-100 acres. high hunt pressure. learned how to hunt natural travel routes to be successful. 4or5 a year in the freezer, we eat. this management stuff can be good and bad. try an ask a neighbor to hunt a little was the norm. now its No.one or two guys lock up land in name of management. yet they get damage stamps to kill em in summer to throw in a damn sink hole for crop damage. I rasised two boys that turned into good hunters.taught them to be proud of everyone they kill. Remind them if they arent having a good time they may need to think bout why they go. yes we let tons of deer go to.i just feel every deer doesnt have to be huge to be a trophy. Yesterday on our hunt land. and its a bow kill. we have a 100 acre bow only santuary. no guns allowed. and deer know it

ours is switichin to rain now. freezin rain is worse i think cause of ice on power lines and stuff.
