I was in a ground blind yesterday morning and as I was watching two does and spike about 30 yards out and I realized I didn't load my rifle. lol I worked the bolt as quiet as I could and made some noise but they barely looked in my direction and then went about their business.

    But did you get one??

Future brother in law took me to the archery range today and fitted me to his old bow. Pretty pumped, planning to take me out by the end of the season and will do whatever it takes to fill that tag. I’m usually a rifle hunter so im beyond excited to try out archery this year.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Believe it or not, I spent 5 days rifle hunting Minnesota and saw nothing.

I then spent 6 days hunting Wisconsin and saw a few deer but nothing close enough to shoot.

Pretty bad streak of luck (and expensive).

I'm dusting off the muzzleloader and going to see what I can do to put some meat in the fridge. I ain't out of options yet.

saw a small spike and what I believe was a button buck, then one doe on the skid trail. Got within shooting range and apparently the other doe I didnt see winded me and they both took off. I could have shot at it but I didnt feel like trudging through 8-12" of snow down hill where they went.

    nice!

I went to a spot where I saw a couple of gut sacks last week. I think its the same couple of guys that hit it up every year. It's public land that borders a huge farm field. I always see a bunch of deer in the field and usually at least one nice buck. They move from the field to the thick woods where I can ambush them. I barely got away from my truck and within 5 minutes there was a doe to my left. She was looking at me but not snorting or stomping or flipping her tail as I stood still like a statue. She made a half circle around me, within 20-30 yards, and walked right into my sights. She wasn't that big though and was towing a fawn that is much smaller than all the others so I let her go. Going to hit up that spot again. A mature doe will be fine with me at this point.

I saw her fawn first, then her. Made the decision to end my day early (7:50am). You can only take 1/day where I hunt. And using my dad’s old 30/06 made it even better!
