Saturday I waited patiently listening to the radio in the morning waiting for the local dog club to dump dogs out. Got set up about 7:30 and not 5 minutes after turning the 4 wheeler off I had 3 does run across the field. Missed every shot with the 760.

We got some snow here in NC on Sunday and Monday. Went and attempted some stalking Sunday around 1pm. Jumped two does in middle of a soybean field, flipped my scope caps up and nothing but fog and water. So later that afternoon I went out and started tracking them once the snow/rain/sleet stopped. Tracked them and one jumped up then ran across a field so fast I couldn't get the scope caps off. So, I took them off and waited for the second one, sure enough she followed. Got 4 shots off with the ol' 760 but no blood... I got back to the house and my scope base was loose to the point my scope could rock back and forth about 1/4 inch. I blame my misses on that. It is fixed now with loctite. :D

Monday evening I go out still hunting overlooking the same soybean field where I originally jumped the two does. Had a spike walk about 20 minutes before shooting light was over. Watched and debated. Since its the wild west in that block of woods between the dog hunters and coyotes, I decided to take him. Now only 4 doe tags left to go before the season is over which is Jan 1st.

This buck was killed on our lease and I am doing the mount. Nice heavy 10pt. 14.5” inside and I had a rough score of 110”. Broke off 3.5” of his left G4.

    So far away.
My lease is north of Junction and I’m geting tired of driving so far. In the next few years I need to find a lease closer to Austin/San Antonio.

Yeah Junction would be far for me. We are on the west side of SA so the lease is only an hour and 15 minutes away. Close enough that I can wake up early enough and drive out for a morning hunt

My companies headquarters is in Austin. I plan to get a transfer to there within the next 5 years. Then I’ll be a lot closer to better hunting.

    Thanks guys!

@wilcam47 rut is usually the week before/week of thanksgiving. Typically like clockwork.

@TXTaco13 this one was National Forest land.

We went to a private plot today and I got to watch a couple small 4 points spar. No real “fighting”. Was the most rut activity I’ve seen so far. One of them made a scrape when the other came within about 50 yards of him. Then, dad had 3 does come in and a buck across the roadbed in some pines started grunting. He’d grunt, and one of the does would run back into the pines after him, then shed come back, then he’d grunt again and she’d Run Over to him. He never came out of the pines so he could see what he was. We’ve had 15 different bucks on camera in there, so there’s no telling what it was
