They've been working at it a long time in KY now. Been in the lottery every year for the last 15 years, it seems, to get a tag and never do.

Even if there’s not a lot of opportunity now it’s cool to think that maybe your kids or grandkids could be chasing elk through the Appalachian’s and the foothills some day:thumbsup:

    Exactly!
Bear, hogs, and big cats are being seen more often now, too. A few years back, I heard rumor that wolves were going to be reintroduced as well.

Wolves are a bad idea, they just destroy wildlife

I didn't understand the logic in it either. Probably why it never grew legs and went beyond a rumor.

Wolves are necessary for a healthy ecosystem, but there isn't enough deer herd to cull them like that.

Thats what they want to believe. they are not needed...we are still suffering from the consequences of wolf introduction. They kill just to kill--not just rabbits but big game. They just started opening it back up for a few days for cow elk during general season. with bear, mt lion and coyotes then winter kill--theres enough pressure on them without adding wolves to the mix. Say what you want, Idaho fish and game thought they were a good idea but now they have up to 5 tags per person to kill them.

I definitely want to head out west and try to get an elk with the bow. That’s been added to my bucket list.

Thats a tough one. I like the idea of seeing them out in the wild but you have to keep them in check. I think Idaho, Montana and Wyoming all got fucked when they turned them loose. The population grew much faster than expected and they had to fight with the feds to allow the states to manage the numbers(hunting). I know within the next 20-30 years they will be established here in California and the state will not allow any hunting of them no matter what.

say goodbye to your grand kids hunting in Cali...If wolves get a hold in the ecosystem its nothing but trouble. Yes it does need to be managed but if left unchecked they will destroy any hopes of a future hunting.

More doe patrol this morning. Shot her 5 minutes after legal light and had her in the tree before the sun came up. This was my last hunt of the season too

Today is the last day of the season for me. Decided not to go sit in the rain this morning. May try to go this evening. Looks like the rain has stopped for the day.

Went yesterday evening. Could have finished the season off with a small 6 point. He walked up within 5 yards of my tree before the wind shifted and he knew I was there. Had my crosshairs on his chest as he was walking toward me. But, he was small. Figured if he had made it all season, might as well let him walk and see what he turns into next year.

Probably. He was the 18th different buck seen on my private plot this year. If all the small bucks we let walk come back next year, we could have a heck of a group of bucks to choose from.
