Deer and Elk open up on Oct 26th. Debating on whether I should go after a doe or a buck first. I have a ranch that would let me on but I don't have an exact Acreage amount. Heard that the bucks out there get big from the ag fields, downside is its an open stubble field. Finding the coverage to shoot may be tough. Have more spots outside of town that I've already got confirmation that there are bucks on.

    Decisions decisions.

Edit to add: We'll overlook it this once if you send some backstrap...

My friend that gave our son the .243 on Monday text me Monday night. He ask if I got a scope? I said not yet, I think I have some mounts that will work though. He said “take the gun to the gun place and have them put your son some mounts and a scope on it”. I did, dropped it off yesterday morning. Stopped and picked it up today and I ask the lady “how much do I owe?” Her response “it’s my understanding that you don’t”. WOW! What a great friend!

I had some kind of animal come in behind me in the woods, cracked some branches and then stopped. I didnt hear anything after that...so either a cat or bear is my guess. Nothing snorted or ran away crashing so I know it wasnt elk, deer or moose.

Lurked for a while figured I'd add a few pics of deer I will probably never kill becuase I am still figuring out public land:anonymous:

Public land near Mississippi State I hunt going to college down here. Don't have many pics from this year becuase my trail cams are giving me problems so these were taken last year
    IMG491446377035485159.jpg IMG7909093750720149266.jpg

Private in SW missouri I hunt when I am home a photographer took in August this year. Me and my uncle saw his ancestor 4 years ago after I killed my first buck that morning. Didn't get a shot becuase he was 400+- yards and we were driving the fields. By the time we hopped out and shut the truck off he was behind a tree and we couldn't tell if it was him when he presented the old Texas heart shot walking into the woods. I'll have to out in the work on this guy this year becuase we don't have a stand up in that area and he beds on neighboring property (luckily they dont let anyone hunt it) and the wind needs to be perfect sw becuase I need to get on top of him to get in a tree I can reliably see his travel route from becuase of a big hillScreenshot_20191013-101211.jpg

I'll probably have to speak up in here to ask a few opinions as I start getting pics down here in Mississippi. Headed up for the first time to hunt private in Mississippi tomorrow morning a friend owns so hopefully I can get something going

Out of curiosity does anyone here hunt from a tree saddle? I moved to one last year for mobility hunting public and I'm a fan but haven't found a platform I really like yet.
