4 spikes and a doe this morning. 3 of the spikes were running together. Checked some cameras and I had a few pics of them sparring last night. They were smelling around where I had sprayed some doe pee this morning. I’m thinking there’s still a little rut action happening - which I saw with smaller bucks end of November/early December but never saw any action from the bigger deer. My big buck made an appearance last night on camera, so he’s still alive. First time I’ve seen him in 2 weeks. Finally had a little stain to the tarsals, which he didn’t in the last picture I got of him. He was also hot on the heels of another smaller buck, and there was an even smaller buck that came in right behind him. I’m not sure what’s going on, honestly.

We had the second rut about 3 weeks ago.
Found several bloody doe piss spots in a couple days.

Found a small 6 pointer yesterday. Crossbow bolt with a Muzzy broadhead. I know the person who shot it. He lost 2 deer in 2 days last fall. He puts no real effort into looking. Just a big waste.

On a happier note,,,I made a big pot of venison chile yesterday. Added some to venison wieners today.

The moose on my avatar was the moose i got the year i built my house, took a week off from building my house where i had been working 7 days a week on it for 2 months and went on this moose hunt, so opening day about 2 miles from my house we saw 5 moose before this one stepped out and made a perfect 200 yard shot on him.

the other moose is my biggest one yet and, he was a last minute bull, came out last minute on the last day of moose season.

It’s weird that the bigger bucks never really got in on the early action. That’s the part I don’t understand. I know a guy close by that has a fawn that’s still got spots, so I know there was a REALLY late rut this past year. Maybe I can get this big one Saturday or Sunday. Last 2 days of the season here.

In a corn field? I always figured they number a limb or tree and knocked their antlers off. I was also told to put a pile of corn at the base of a tree and run some twine out at a bit of and angle on both sides of the pile to get them bucks to drop em where you want em... But I have found since baiting became legal this year, that all I would catch is raccoon scat
